Since the upcoming Engage 3-row SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be sourced from Toyota, it is likely to carry the same engine and transmission options as the Toyota Innova Hycross. However, we believe that Maruti Suzuki may introduce the hybrid powertrains to the Engage a little bit later after its launch and only bring the 2.0L normal petrol at launch. Align with this, the Engage may also bring the option of a manual transmission with this engine to keep the starting prices more affordable. This powertrain option will also help the Engage better compete with cars like the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700 and Scorpio N, which offer a manual transmission. The availability of a manual transmission suggests that there’s demand for a manual transmission in the D-segment SUV space and it could also help Maruti Suzuki better compete with these established rivals.
