With this update, Kia have introduced more affordable diesel-automatic and turbo petrol-automatic variants to the 2026 Sonet lineup. The biggest highlight is that both diesel-automatic and turbo petrol-automatic variants now start below Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Earlier, buyers had to opt for higher variants such as HTX and above to get the diesel automatic, which meant the starting price was over Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom). With the new entry-level automatic variant, the diesel automatic Sonet is now Rs. 2.25 lakh more affordable than before, making it one of the most accessible diesel-automatic SUVs in India.
The Kia Sonet diesel is offered with a 1.5L diesel engine that produces 116PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It is offered with a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter (TC) automatic transmission. The top GTX Plus variant of the Sonet diesel is only offered with the automatic transmission.

Previously, the turbo petrol automatic was available only in HTX, GTX Plus and X-Line variants, which meant buyers had to spend significantly more to access this transmission. Thanks to the new HTK(O) variant, the Sonet turbo petrol automatic is now Rs. 1.7 lakh cheaper than before, making performance-focused automatic variants more accessible to a wider set of buyers.
The Kia Sonet turbo petrol is offered with a 1L turbo petrol engine that produces 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque. It is offered with a choice of a 6-speed auto-clutch manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The top GTX Plus and X-Line variants of the Sonet turbo petrol are only offered with the DCT.
Why These New Variants Matter For Buyers
The expansion of automatic variants reflects a broader shift in buyer preferences. With rising traffic congestion in our cities, more customers are choosing automatic transmissions because they reduce fatigue in stop-and-go traffic and make daily commuting easier.
By introducing automatic options in lower and mid variants, Kia have substantially lowered the entry price for buyers considering a compact automatic SUV.
New Colour Option Introduced
Along with the expanded automatic lineup, Kia have also introduced a new exterior colour called Magma Red. This vibrant shade enhances the sporty and youthful appeal of the Kia Sonet and adds another option for buyers looking for a more distinctive appearance.
