Toyota appear to be getting ready to pull the covers off their first mass-market electric SUV for India. The brand has sent out a “block your date” invite for January 20, 2026, strongly suggesting that the India-spec Urban Cruiser EV will make its debut on that day.

2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Likely To Debut On January 20

While Toyota have not officially confirmed the product name or launch details yet, the timing aligns with the brand’s earlier teaser campaign for the Urban Cruiser EV, which is essentially a rebadged version of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Likely To Be Unveiled This Month

Toyota released the first teaser of the Urban Cruiser EV recently, giving us a glimpse of its front-end styling. The teaser showcased a sculpted bonnet, slim LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, and a ‘BEV’ badge on the front fender, indicating that it’s an battery electric vehicle.

With the January 20 date now marked out, it appears Toyota are ready to reveal the SUV in its near-production form for the Indian market. We expect more teasers or official communication from Toyota in the coming days, leading up to the unveiling.

What To Expect From 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

The Urban Cruiser EV is expected to be closely based on the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which was showcased in near-production form at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. As a result, the Toyota SUV should share most of its design, platform and mechanicals, with brand-specific styling tweaks to differentiate it from its Maruti sibling.

2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Dashboard

On the inside, the Urban Cruiser EV is likely to offer a large touchscreen infotainment system paired with a fully digital instrument cluster, along with a fixed glass roof to enhance the sense of space. In terms of safety, expect features such as 6 airbags and a 360-degree camera to be standard, while higher variants could offer Level-2 ADAS, similar to the e Vitara.

Battery, Range And Performance Expectations

Mechanically, the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to mirror the e Vitara’s setup. This means 2 battery pack options – a 49kWh unit and a larger 61kWh unit – could be on offer. Maruti have already claimed a range of up to 543km for the e Vitara with the larger battery, and Toyota’s EV is likely to post similar figures.

Powering the SUV should be a front-mounted electric motor, with outputs expected to be in the region of 144PS with the smaller battery and 170PS with the larger one. Final specifications, however, will only be confirmed at the official reveal.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Expected Prices And Rivals

Given its badge-engineered relationship with the Maruti e Vitara, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is expected to command a slight premium. We expect prices to start at around Rs. 19 lakh and go up to approximately Rs. 23 lakh (ex-showroom).

Once unveiled and eventually launched, the Urban Cruiser EV will compete in the fast-growing electric C-SUV space. Key rivals are expected to include the Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.
