2026 Volkswagen Taigun Mileage – What’s New?

The Taigun facelift continues with the 1L and 1.5L turbo petrol engines. However, there are some key changes to the gearbox options:

  • The 1L turbo petrol engine now comes with a 6-speed manual or a new 8-speed torque converter automatic
  • The 1.5L turbo petrol engine is now available only with a 7-speed DCT automatic (manual discontinued)

Here are the claimed fuel efficiency figures for the updated model:

2026 Volkswagen Taigun Mileage Figures

  • 1L Turbo Petrol MT – 19.98kmpl
  • 1L Turbo Petrol AT – 19.54kmpl
  • 1.5L Turbo Petrol DCT – 18.85kmpl

What Do These Changes Mean?

The introduction of the new 8-speed torque converter automatic appears to have played a key role in improving the efficiency of the 1L turbo petrol automatic variant. The nearly 1.4kmpl increase over the outgoing model is a substantial gain on paper. The manual variant sees only a marginal improvement, suggesting minimal mechanical changes to the engine itself.

Meanwhile, the 1.5L turbo petrol paired with the 7-speed DCT sees a slight drop in claimed fuel efficiency. This could be due to changes in tuning, added features or increased vehicle weight.

While the claimed figures show an improvement, real-world fuel efficiency is likely to vary significantly. Turbo petrol engines are highly sensitive to driving style, and factors such as hard acceleration, frequent braking and heavy stop-start traffic can cause a noticeable drop in mileage.

In typical driving conditions, buyers can expect:

  • City: 9-10kmpl
  • Highway: 17-18kmpl
