India’s leading luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz recently launched a new special edition model of the GLS SUV. Named as the Mercedes-Benz GLS Grand Edition, the special edition of the German flagship luxury SUV model has been tagged at Rs. 86.90 lakhs (ex-showroom India) for both petrol and diesel models. Mercedes-Benz have often mentioned that India is an important market for the country, and now the German luxury behemoth has said that India is the top sixth market when the GLS SUV’s global sales are concerned. The new GLS Grand Edition was launched in the country by Mercedes-Benz India’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Roland Folger.
Let’s take a look at the new Mercedes-Benz GLS Grand Edition:
When the special things are concerned, the Mercedes-Benz GLS Grand Edition boasts of new headlamp clusters with LED Intelligent Light System along with distinctive black rings. The headlamps work and adjust automatically depending on driving and weather conditions. Dipped beam gets activated to enhance the safety quotient when the vehicle’s speed crosses 90 kmph. The SUV also gets enhanced fog lamp function which lights up the outer part of the carriageway better and also effectively reduces the glare that is caused by the light reflected by fog. The special edition model of the SUV also of course flaunts a Grand Edition badge along with chrome lines on the bonnet to add to the grand looks of the luxury SUV and to mark itself apart from its regular avatar. The new GLS Grand edition also gets endowed with 20 inch 10-spoke light alloy wheels, which get a black paint for a more elegant appeal.
On the inside, the German luxury auto brand has endowed a handful of special touches on the Mercedes-Benz GLS luxury SUV, which includes a more sophisticated dashboard design, a 3-spoke heated, multi-functional steering wheel covered in premium Nappa leather and a larger infotainment system that comes with inbuilt navigation, Apple Car Play and Android Auto support.
The rear seat passengers can now enjoy rear seat entertainment system (RSES) which comes as a part of the standard feature package on the new GLS Grand Edition. The Two 7 inch HD displays along with mobile phone connectivity allow the rear passengers to listen to music, send and receive text messages, make calls, and get access to select third-party apps via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. The GLS Grand Edition also comes with a panoramic sunroof and 4MATIC permanent all 4 wheel drive system as standard. The GLS flagship SUV offers best in class cargo area of 680 litres that can be expanded to 2300 litres by folding the rear seats.
Mercedes-Benz GLS Grand Edition is available for sale in India in both petrol and diesel versions. The GLS 350d gets powered by a V6 diesel motor which is capable of delivering a peak power output of 258 hp along with 620 Nm of top torque. On the other hand, the GLS 400 packs in a V6 petrol engine that is good to generate 333 hp and 480 Nm. Both the engines get paired with a 9 speed G-Tronic transmission gearbox.
