Hyundai has recently confirmed the name of the upcoming 2018 hatchback to be ‘Santro’. The hatchback is scheduled to be launched on 23rd October in the country and will be unveiled on 9th October with the advanced bookings commencing from 10th October. Codenamed as AH2, the new Santro hatchback has already been spied testing a number of times in the country and has created a buzz in order to repeat the history of Hyundai Santro being one of the best sellers in the segment.
Sharing the same HA platform with the first gen i10, the new generation Santro will sit between the Eon and Grand i10 in the company's line-up and will carry a similar design language with strong lines, LED DRLs and the full-face grille seen on the facelifted Grand i10. The hatchback also features large tail lights like the Eon and gets black inserts in the bumpers like the updated Grand i10.
At the interior, the upcoming Santro will come with a three-spoke steering wheel with audio mounted controls dash-mounted gear lever, cabin trim design and other features from the Grand i10 making the hatchback more premium than before. We can also expect a touchscreen system that can be operated through the steering mounted controls. The safety features include airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors among others.
Though the powertrain options have not been revealed, but the 2018 Hyundai Santro is likely to come powered by an 800cc petrol engine with automatic/AMT versions as well to make it more competitive in the segment.
The upcoming Hyundai hatchback will replace the Eon hatch in the Indian market. Expected to be priced in the 2.5 lakh to 4.5 lakh rupee price bracket, when launched the Hyudnai Santro will take against the likes of the Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago, along with Maruti Suzuki's Celerio and Wagon R in the segment.
