All New Audi A8 L Sedan’s India Launch Confirmed – To Come By End Of 2019
At the inauguration even of Audi’s new dealership outlet in Gurugram, the head of Audi India, Rahil Ansari said that the company will be launching the A8 by the end of the current year. He added by saying that the company have opened the pre-bookings of the luxury saloon and that some of the bookings have already been confirmed."
Similar to the previous-gen A8, the new-gen model continues to be offered for sale in the international markets in two configurations – a standard A8 and the long-wheelbase A8 L. However, only the long-wheelbase option is expected to arrive in the Indian auto market.
The new Audi A8 L is based on the parent company Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform and has grown in size than its predecessor. It measures 5,302 mm long, 1,945 mm wide and 1,488 mm tall, which is 37 mm longer and 17mm taller than the 3rd generation model, but is 4 mm narrower. The saloon comes riding on a wheelbase measuring 3,128 mm, which is 6 mm longer than the preceding model.
The new generation A8 also comes with a comprehensive overhaul and flaunts its maker’s latest design language. The all new flagship sedan boasts of a sporty front fascia with a bold hexagonal front grille and sleek and stylish HD Matrix LED headlights. At the rear end the car flaunts sleek OLED tail lights and a light bar that runs across the width of the car connecting the tail lights and adds to the overall oomph factor of the car.
On the inside, the 4th-gen A8 gets a neat and sophisticated cockpit with extensive digital surfaces. The car boasts of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster display, a massive 10.1 inch touchscreen integrated infotainment system and a large 8.6 inch curved display on the centre console for operating several climate control and seating functions. The car offers the expected multi-function heated and massage seats, while a foot massage function for the rear occupants ups the luxuriousness of the car over its rivals. Other noteworthy cutting-edge technology on new A8 includes Level 3 Autonomous Driving tech. However, this technology might not make it to our market.
The luxury sedan is available for sale in the international markets with a number of powertrain options, which includes two 3.0 litre, V6 turbocharged petrol and diesel engines offering 340 hp and 286 hp, respectively; a 4.0 litre, twin-turbocharged petrol V8 engine generating a massive 460 hp and a W12 powertrain plug-in hybrid version.
The Indian car market is expected to receive the new Audi A8 L powered either by the 3.0 litre V6 petrol or diesel engine; featuring a mild-hybrid technology.
The A8 L is likely to come to India through the CBU rout, meaning it will be a fully imported car, and thus expensive. It is expected to be tagged at around Rs. 1.30 crore - 1.40 crore, but the deep pocketed luxury sedan aficionados in India surely wouldn’t mind the price. The flagship sedan will be fighting with the likes of the Mercedes S-Class, Jaguar XJ, Lexus LS500h and the newly updated BMW 7 Series.
