Ford has taken the wraps off its new global model in the Indian car market - the Ford Freestyle. The new Ford Freestyle is a global compact utility vehicle (CUV) and is introduced in India to make the most of the highly popular Indian subcompact utility vehicle market.
The all-new Freestyle amalgamates the tough features of an SUV along with the compactness of a city car. The new car from the house of Ford boasts of aggressive styling, great performance, advanced technologies and superb fuel economy to offer a complete package to the car buyers of India as well as the global markets.
The American auto major didn’t only choose India for the world premiere of the all-new Freestyle, but it will also be the first car market where the new CUV will be officially launched the second quarter of this year.
While speaking during the unveiling of the new Ford Freestyle, the company’s president & managing director, Anurag Mehrotra said that the global introduction of the Ford Freestyle reinforces Ford’s continued commitment to the Indian market to bring in products which the customers demand and value. He added by saying that with the cool, capable and connected Freestyle, Ford is adding another superb product to its varied portfolio which will help the company expand the happy family of Ford owners in this country.
The new Ford Freestyle is essentially the crossover version of the new updated Ford Figo hatchback that is yet to launch in India. Although it is called a CUV by Ford, the Freestyle is a beefed up hatchback-turned-crossover model.
In terms of exterior design, the new Ford Freestyle gets all the features of a pseudo mini SUV which includes a new radiator grille, darkened headlights, new bonnet, skid plate and new alloy wheels. Other cross-hatch features are also there, such as added body cladding, roof rails and bigger and wider tyres. The vehicle comes with raised ground clearance, which is 15mm more than that of the Figo hatch. The Freestyle also has a wider track to enhance its bold looks.
On the inside, the new Ford Freestyle offers a new 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring the latest Ford Sync 3.
The Freestyle will offer better ride and handling on rough road conditions braced with a tuned suspension setup, tuned steering system, increased track-width, Traction Control system, ABS with EBD and EPAS and other features. Other safety features will include 6 airbags on the top-end trims.
Under the hood, the Freestyle CUV is introducing Ford’s new 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol mill from the Dragon engine family, which generates 96 hp of power and 120 Nm of peak torque, making it best in its own class. The engine is paired with a new 5-speed transmission, while an automatic gearbox is expected to come at a later date. On the other hand, there will be the 100hp, 1.5L TDCi diesel motor choice also available.
The all-new Ford Freestyle will be launched in India in the April-May period and post its launch will fight directly with the likes of the Toyota Etios Cross in India.
