Mahindra & Mahindra has showcased the next-gen Rexton SUV at company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), in Mumbai. The all-new Rexton SUV by Mahindra has been showcased with its codename ‘Y400’ displayed on the license plate, to select dealers and shareholders. The upcoming SUV by the Indian auto giant is going to be the flagship SUV by the automaker leaving the SsangYong badging away. However, keeping in with the current Mahindra monikers, the SUV will be called as XUV700 in the Indian market.
According to Mahindra, in order to result in a change in ride height and changes to its handling characteristics, the Rexton will feature a tweaked suspension set-up to better suit Indian roads. The displayed model shows that to bring it more in line with Mahindra’s design language, the SUV sports changes to the grille and other subtle design tweaks.
The new Rexton was present at Mahindra’s 2018 Auto Expo stall and has since been spied testing in the country since then. Talking about the changes and features, the next-gen Rexton will come loaded with projector headlamps, a 9.2-inch HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, a 7.0-inch LCD instrument cluster, cooled seats, Nappa leather upholstery and a smart tailgate as the major highlighting features.
Mechanically, the new Rexton/XUV700 gets a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine that produces 187 hp of maximum power and 420 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed torque converter automatic transmission. However, an all-wheel-drive will be on offer with higher-spec variants as well.
In terms of pricing, we can expect the second- gen Rexton to begin at Rs 24 lakh and when launched, the SUV will take against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner (Rs 26.69-32.48 lakh) and the Ford Endeavour (Rs 26.33-32.81 lakh).
