Renault India has officially unveiled its much awaited and speculated compact MPV model – Triber. The brand new Renault Triber is a 7-seater sub-4 meter compact MPV model and is the second MPV offering in India from the house of the French automaker, after the Lodgy. The new Triber is likely to hit the car market of India in the second half of this year, probably at the onset of the Indian festive season.
In terms of market positioning, the new Renault Triber is pretty unique as it fits in between the compact MPV segment and the compact hatchback segment. The Triber is smaller than the highly popular Maruti Ertiga compact MPV but is larger than the mid-size Maruti Swift hatchback and all other similar hatchback models in the segment. As the Triber is also expected to be priced highly aggressively, it is expected to eat into some demands of the hatchback models.
On the other hand, the Renault Triber’s direct rival is the subcompact 7-seater MPV Datsun GO+, which is its Japanese cousin. However, the Renault Triber seems to be a more premium offering than the Datsun GO+, going by the model’s looks at the unveiling event. Thus, the Renault Triber is actually a highly unique offering at the moment in the Indian auto market.
The Triber is aimed at those modern Indian car buyers who wanted a mid-size hatchback like the Maruti Swift but would like to avail more interior space to accommodate more occupants on some occasions.
The Renault Triber will get powered by a 1.0-liter petrol engine that has the capability to churn out a max power output of 71 bhp and will be getting paired with both manual and AMT gearbox options. The MPV also comes with a good ground clearance of 182 mm in order to offer better rough road handling abilities.
