Czech car maker, Skoda has very recently revealed the official name of its Vision X based compact SUV. Named as the Skoda Kamiq, the new upcoming SUV has been also teased when the car manufacturer posted its official design sketch. The Skoda Kamiq is about to make its official debut at the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March. Prior to its global debut, the new Kamiq’s interiors have been revealed as well.
The new upcoming Skoda Kamiq compact SUV is meant for the European car market and is a global model. The latest member of Skoda’s new SUV lineup gets endowed with an interior design that showcases the company’s take on the cabin design for the upcoming models that has not been seen in any Skoda model till date. Thus, while the new exterior design of the Kamiq keeps in line with its elder siblings Kodiaq and Karoq, the all-new compact SUV boasts of a unique cabin design.
The new upcoming Kamiq SUV gets a new dashboard design that flaunts a new freestanding touchscreen display that is positioned above the central console of the vehicle. The SUV gets endowed with microfiber seat upholstery and crystalline design on the lumbar. The interior upholstery gets soft-touch finishes making the cabin look and feel more premium and comfortable. As per Skoda, ergonomics have been given priority while designing the interiors of the Kamiq.
The new compact SUV will also be coming with an optional 10.25 inch virtual cockpit instrument screen display as optional that has been recently introduced to the Kodiaq L&K trim. The new SUV will also be getting endowed with some segment first features to make the whole package more enticing for the prospective buyers. These include features like heating for the rear seats, steering wheel and windscreen, ambient lighting system and power adjustable seats.
The new global Kamiq is based on the MQB-AO platform that will go to underpin all the upcoming new Skoda and Volkswagen car models in India. While the China exclusive SUV with the same name is based on a different platform. The new Kamiq rides on a wheelbase measuring 2,651 mm and offers a boot volume of 400 litres, which is expandable to 1,395 litres with the rear seats folded.
The Kamiq is an urban compact SUV model, which specially targets the car markets of Europe. As it is a global model, it is also likely to launch in the Indian market, which is expected sometime in 2020.
Post its market launch in India, the new Skoda Kamiq will be locking its horns with the Indian compact SUV segment leader - the Hyundai Creta and the likes.
In the European markets, the new Skoda Kamiq SUV will pack in a wide range of powertrains comprising of three petrol and two diesel engines to choose from. There are yet no words regarding the under the hood specifications of the India-spec Kamiq. Nevertheless, a 1.5L petrol and diesel units are expected to power the anticipated India-spec Kamiq, which are also likely to drive the Scala sedan in the country.
