South Korean car maker Kia is the debutant at the Auto Expo 2018, which marks its entry in the Indian car market. Kia has showcased 16 cars from its global lineup and also made the world debut of the Kia SP Concept SUV at the expo. This subsidiary of Hyundai Motors is going to start its operations in India in 2019 and would launch the SP Concept based SUV in the domestic car market of the country in the same year. The South Korean car manufacturing company is also expected to expand its Indian lineup soon and launch quite a few car models in this country by 2020. One of these expected upcoming Kia cars is the Rio hatchback, which is also being displayed at the Auto Expo 2018.
The Kia Rio hatchback is based on the Hyundai-Kia GB platform which also underpins the highly popular Hyundai Elite i20. Thus, the Rio will be one of new rivals of the i20 when it launches in the car market of India.
When styling is concerned, the 2018 Kia Rio hatch flaunts a premium visual appeal with smooth flowing design language and sharp character lines. It has a highly stylized front fascia with Kia’s signature ‘Tiger-nose’ radiator grille and stylish sweptback multi-reflector bright headlights. It has smart bumper design, air dam and fog lamps, while the doors have a sculpted appeal that looks like they have been chiseled out of the body of the smooth and aggressive looking car. The hatchback also flaunts finely designed 15 inch alloy wheels. The rear design of the Rio hatchback is also attractive. The hatch lid is not a sloping or rounded off, but has an upright appeal, while the large rear windscreen adds to the uprightness and width of the car’s rear design. On the whole the Rio is a stylish and contemporary hatchback that should draw the interest of the modern Indian car buyers.
The Kia Rio is also big on equipments and features and offering a long list of creature comfort features. This includes a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes along with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity support and also offers rear parking camera support. The hatchback also offers cruise control, 6-way adjustable driver’s seat and much more. Under the hood, the Kia Rio hatchback is equipped with a 1.6 litre petrol engine which is capable of churning out a max power output of 130 PS along with a top torque of 161 Nm. The petrol engine gets paired to a 6 speed manual gearbox, while a 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox option is also there.
