South Korean car maker Kia Motors has finally made its debut in the Indian car market officially at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018. Kia has marked its entry in India with the world premiere of its new SP Concept as the brand’s showstopper at the expo. Kia’s official Indian debut is one of the major highlights of the 14th edition Auto Expo, and the Kia SP Concept is proving to be the attention drawer for the company.
Apart from making the global debut of its new SP Concept at the centre stage of its stall at the auto event, Kia Motors is also displaying its range car models at Auto expo to showcase the company’s car building prowess. Kia is Hyundai Motor’s sister concern and has been long speculated to be entering the car market of India.
Coming to the Kia SP Concept, it is an SUV concept model which is quite similar to the Hyundai Creta in terms of size and positioning. The SP Concept is thought to be the preview of Kia’s first offering in the car market of India. The SP Concept’s production version would most likely share the same platform and parts with the Creta. The SP Concept SUV is expected to get its production version sometime in 2019, when Kia Motors India will officially start its production.
The Kia SP Concept SUV has been displayed at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo clad in a dazzling golden-orange body paint and a white contrasting roof. The SUV concept looks quite stylish and bold with its wide grille which is the more aggressive version of Kia’s family grille, trendy headlights, bold bumper and prominent character lines. It doesn’t have a typical boxy appeal, but rather smooth, smart and neat stylish language. Nevertheless, the SP Concept’s strong SUV stance is quite evident. The SP Cocept’s draws attention with its aggressively styled front fascia that flaunts the interesting and eye-catching headlamp design, which actually amalgamates two styling elements. The headlights are a combination of a sleek and edgy running light on the top and a larger lighting arrangement on the bottom. The highly stylized large radiator grille smoothly integrates with the headlights. The rear end of the SP Concept SUV is also smart looking and is reminiscent of the Creta’s rear façade. The rear styling also takes design inspiration from the Sportage SUV when the attractive tail lights are concerned.
There are some more stylish and muscular styling elements to add to the concept’s macho SUV appeal, such as the wide wheel arches, large wheels and skid plates. The contemporary and bold styling of the SUV concept has been definitely accentuated further with the attractive two tone body color scheme already mentioned. In fact, the Kia SP Concept doesn’t look much of a concept and looks quite production ready, which gives us hope that it would remain nearly identical in its actual production avatar.
Upon its Indian launch, the Kia SP Concept will rival the likes of its own cousin Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur.
