BMW has commenced the local assembling of the 2018 MINI Countryman that was launched earlier this month priced at Rs 34.90 lakh in India. The Countryman is being assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant. The same plant also produces the BMW X1 with which the 2018 MINI Countryman shares its platform. Available with two petrol and one diesel variant, the newly launched Countryman was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in the country.
The Second generation MINI Countryman measures 4299 mm in length, 1822 mm in width, and 1557 mm in height. This makes the car 200 mm longer and 30 mm wider than its predecessor while the increased length also makes way for a larger boot space of 450 litres, which is further expandable to 1309 litres with rear seats folded. The wheelbase of the 2018 Countryman measures 2669 mm, increased by 75 mm making it the most spacious MINI on sale in India.
Under the hood, the next-gen MINI Countryman comes powered by both petrol and diesel engine options- the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine capable of producing max power 189 bhp and peak torque of 280 Nm and the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine churning out 188 bhp of max power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties will be carried out by an 8-Speed Steptronic transmission. In terms of performance, while the petrol version is capable of going from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 7.5 seconds, the diesel engine can do the same sprint in 7.7 seconds. While the diesel engine returns a fuel efficiency of 19.19 kmpl, the petrol mill claims 14.41 kmpl.
In terms of looks and features, the newly launched BMW MINI Countryman offers the familiar 'floating roof', large headlamps and hexagonal radiator grille, LED lighting with asymmetric shape as well as vertically arranged light units, the Countryman badging across the boot lid and the pronounced wheel arches at the rear. The interior features ample front and rear legroom, front and rear headroom and rear seat shoulder-room than before, MINI's acclaimed Satellite Navigation System, Bluetooth, Cruise Control and Emergency E-call and Active Guard. The customization option includes extensive color and trim options, advanced technology features and a range of option packs such as a new 8.8-inch touchscreen display as part of the MINI Navigation System XL, offering touchscreen multimedia and navigation control.
Talking about the color options, the 2018 MINI offers exterior color options such as Light White, Thunder Grey, Island Blue, Chilli Red, and Melting Silver while the British Racing Green exterior shade is exclusive to the MINI Countryman Cooper S. The upholstery has been done in leatherette Carbon Black as standard. Also, MINI Countryman S JCW Inspired pack gets Leather Cross Punch Carbon Black upholstery. Though the MINI India range includes the Countryman, Clubman, and the recently launched 2018 Mini 3-door, 5-door, and Convertible models but out of these all, only the Countryman is currently assembled in India. The 2018 MINI Countryman rivals the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, and the soon to be launched Volvo XC40. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates.
