German luxury automaker is all set to launch the M2 and M5 Competition cars in the Indian market. Though, the official launch date has not been announced yet, but it is expected to happen soon in the next few months. BMW India has launched the 6-series Gran Turismo, the new M5, the updated M3 and M4 and the all-new X3 since the beginning of 2018 and now the automaker is all set to launch the new 'Competition' package of the M2 and M5 that offers a bump in performance along with some styling upgrades too.
Let’s have a look at the BMW M2 and M5 Competition package cars –
BMW M2 Competition
Marking the debut of the 2-series in the Indian market, the BMW M2 Competition will come powered by the same 3-litre engine as the M3 and M4 producing 405 bhp of peak power and 550 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic for India ditching the highly acclaimed 6-speed manual in the country. The engine will have the capacity to reach the sprint of 0-100 kmph in 4.2-seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph. However, BMW’s M Driver's Package which raises the top speed to 280 kmph will be on offer or not, is still not confirmed.
In terms of features, the upcoming BMW M2 Competition will be offered in five colors along with one standard interior in all black trim option. The features to be on offer include the standard M-Sport 5-spoke wheel or an optional19-inch competition wheel, a choice for the customers to spec either the standard seats or optional M-sport leather seats, Apple CarPlay, a high end Harman Kardon audio system, BMW Apps and inbuilt navigation as well as a full sized spare wheel as an India only standard fitment.
Apart from these, the German automaker will also offer the 'M Performance Parts' as customization option for the customers. The features include the optional carbon-fibre roof, larger carbon-fibre rear spoiler, BMW M Brake Package, carbon-fibre rear diffuser, carbon-fibre side skirts, carbon-fibre exhaust tips and a carbon-fibre boot-lid along with the optional, motorsport ready 19-inch forged wheels on the sports coupe. When launched, the new BMW M2 will take on the likes of the Porsche 718 Cayman in India along with the soon to be launched Audi TT RS.
BMW M5 Competition
Other BMW car to be launched along with the M2 Competition to be launched in India is the BMW M5 Competition. The M5 is the performance version of 5 Series sedan and will come powered by same 4.4 L Bi-Turbo V8 engine producing 625 bhp of power which is 25 bhp more than the regular M5 and 750 Nm of torque similar to the standard M5. This engine is mated to 8 speed M step tronic transmission along with paddle shifter behind the steering wheel for manual shifting. The M5 Competition will be able to do 0-100 kmph in mere 3.3 seconds and 0-200 kmph in just 10.8 seconds which is 0.3 seconds quicker than M5 with a top speed of 304 kmph.
BMW will also offer three transmission modes – Efficient, Sport and new Ultra-High-Performance and M xDrive all-wheel drive system as well as carbon ceramic brakes which similar to the standard M5. A fully variable transfer case will also be on offer, which can split power between front and rear wheels along with Active M Differential to split the power again between two rear wheels. The driver can also change exhaust note using M sound control button on the dashboard in order to enhance the sporty exhaust note of the vehicle.
In terms of features, the upcoming BMW M5 Competition will be offered with new glossy black finish for the grille, bumper, door handle, mirror, boot spoiler and M5 logo at the rear along with special 20 inch light weight alloy wheels with Y spoke design and bi-color finish at the exterior, while the interior gets M Competition welcome graphics on the instrument cluster along with black seat belts and floor mates with M5 logo. The automaker is preparing to start the production of M5 Competition next month and introduce the sedan by the end of 2018 in India. When launched, the BMW M5 Competition will take against the likes of the Mercedes-AMG E63 S in India.
BMW is looking to launch the M2 Competition in the country during the festive season at an expected price of around Rs 80-85 lakh (ex-showroom, India), making it the most affordable M car in the country. However, the BMW M5 Competition is expected to be priced little more than the standard M5 that costs Rs 1.43 crore.
