    Confirmed: 2018 Toyota Yaris To Be Launched On May 18, 2018

    Japanese automaker Toyota has finally announced the official launch date for the 2018 Yaris sedan in the Indian market. The sedan will be launched on 18th May 2018 in the country and the official advanced bookings for the 2018 Yaris will commence from 22nd April 2018 but the advanced bookings for the sedan has already begun for Rs. 50,000 at selected Toyota showrooms across the country. The sedan was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo for the first time in the country.

    Under the hood, the upcoming Yaris will come powered by a 1.5-litre VVT-i petrol engine which makes 107 BHP of maximum power and 140 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties will be carried out by either a six-speed manual or a seven-step CVT automatic as an option while the engine is expected to return the fuel efficiency of 21kmpl. However, Toyota might opt for an uprated 1.4-litre diesel mill from the Corolla as well at a later stage of time, but initially only petrol motor will likely be sold in the country when launched.


    At the exterior, the design and styling of the 2018 Yaris sedan borrows the elements from the Corolla sibling. The design highlights include wide projector headlamps with sharpened edges, L-shaped fog lamp cluster, angular bonnet, sleek wing mirrors with turn indicators, blackened pillars, 16-inch alloy wheels, wraparound tail lamps, shark fin antenna, large air intake, LED pilot lamps positioned just below the sleek headlamps, prominent Toyota badge in the middle, raised rear profile etc among others..

    Talking about the interior, the upcoming Yaris is expected to offer 2-DIN audio with Bluetooth, USB and AUX compatibility as standard in the base variants while it will get dual-tone beige and black color combination with a host of silver accents for premium appeal. However, there isn’t much information about the interior but the top-end variants are likely to come with seven airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), brake assist, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) with HAC (Hill Assist Control) among standard safety features. Other interior highlights to be offered with the top-end variants include seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push button start, electrically adjustable ORVMs, smart entry, automatic air conditioning and Optitron instrument cluster.


    The sedan is also expected to come with a number of segment-first features such as 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display with ECO wallet, gesture controls for infotainment system, adjustable rear centre headrest, roof-mounted AC vents with ambient lighting, acoustic and vibration control glass, electrically adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split rear seats, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and tail lamps with LED line gude. Apart from the features, the all-new sedan will be available in several exterior color options such as Red Mica Metallic, Super White II, Silver Metallic, Grey metallic, Attitude Black Mica Citrus Mica Metallic and Orange Metallic.

    The Yaris sedan measures around 4,425 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width, 1,475 mm in height and has 2,550 mm wheelbase. Expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 8 lakh - Rs 12 lakh, when launched the 2018 Yaris will take against the likes of Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid. Toyota has high expectations with the upcoming Yaris in the Indian market in order to boost the sales for the Japanese automaker in the segment. Hence, it will be interesting to see if the sedan that is looking so promising till now succeeds to lure the customers and meet the expectations of Toyota or not.
