Next- gen Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been in works for quite some time now and the upcoming hatchback has been spotted testing in the country a number of times ahead of its launch. Maruti has confirmed that the new-gen Wagon R tall-boy hatchback will go on sale in January 2019 and according to the reports, the next- gen 2019 Maruti Wagon R will go on sale in India on 23rd January 2019. The details of the hatchback have already been leaked on the internet in the form of images.
The spied images suggest that the upcoming Wagon R will come based on Suzuki's new HEARTECT platform making the car lighter, stronger, longer and wider than before and will continue to offer its tallboy design as the outgoing model. The all- new Wagon R will be 3395 mm long, 1475 mm wide, and 1650 mm tall in terms of dimension. The Wagon R also benefits from a longer wheelbase at 2460 mm. Also, the next- gen Wagon R will be in line with all the safety and crash test norms. Not only the hatchback will be bigger than the outgoing model but will also offer better handling and driving experience as well as it gets Ertiga like design and styling with the tall and butch stance at the rear. The spotted car has been a five- seater mule and will be offered in LX, LXI, VXI and VXI Plus variants.
At the inside, the 6th gen Wagon R will be offered with a completely new interior featuring several new comfort, convenience and safety equipments. To be the most loaded trim, the top- spec is expected to receive a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of safety, the tall- boy hatch will come with dual front airbags, ABS (Anti- Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution), rear parking sensors and seat belt reminder as standard, while the top- spec model will also come equipped with rear parking camera as additional safety feature.
Under the hood, the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will be powered by the same 1.0- litre K10B petrol engine that produces 67 bhp of power and 90 Nm of torque. The vehicle will also receive factory- fitted CNG version. Transmission options include a 5- speed manual and a 5- speed automated manual transmission as option.
The current version comes priced between Rs 4.18 lakh and Rs 5.39 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi). The new- gen model is expected to be priced somewhere in the same price bracket. The current- generation Wagon R sells in the range of more than 10,000 units a month making it a best- seller in the segment. The 2019 WagonR hatchback will enter production at the company plant in Manesar in the coming weeks. It will replace the current model and will be offered in two styles of Regular and Sting- Ray. When launched, the next- gen Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will continue to take against the likes of the Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid and Hyundai Santro in the segment.
