In this December 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all D-segment cars in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all D-segment cars for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend.

D-Segment Cars December 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change

SUVs and MPVs continue to rule the D-segment. There are only 3 sedans in the D-segment, and only 1 pick-up.
In fact, the top 10 best selling D-segment cars are all SUVs or MPVs, with 4 out of the top 5 being SUVs.
The Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic), Mahindra XUV700, Kia Carens, Tata Harrier and Toyota Fortuner took the top 5 spots.
Top notable winner in the category was the Scorpio pair with 300% growth in the YoY comparison analysis.
The Scorpio pair was followed by Hyundai Alcazar with 47.5% YoY growth and Mahindra XUV700 with 41% YoY growth.
Top notable loser in the YoY comparison was Toyota Innova Crysta with about 100% drop in dispatches over the year.

D-Segment Cars December 2022 Car Sales - MoM Change

In terms of MoM performance, the Scorpio sisters were the best-selling cars in the D-segment, and saw a growth of 8.5% in December over November
Volkswagen Tiguan was the top gainer in terms of MoM sales comparison with over 70% increase in dispatches compared to November
The Toyota Innova Crysta saw the biggest MoM decline (among mass-market cars) of over 98% in December MoM comparison analysis, dispatching just 36 units in December compared to over 2,000 units in November
