In this December 2022 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all hatchbacks in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all hatchbacks for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.
Hatchbacks Segment December 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change
- In terms of sales, the B-segment hatchback is the best-selling segment in the Indian market.
- Kwid was the best performing hatchback in December 2022 YoY comparison, with a 73% rise in dispatches as compared to December 2021.
- The Tiago, Ignis and i20 can be put on the second spot for top performing cars in the category, with around 65% YoY gains in December 2022.
- The Honda Jazz was the biggest loser, with a 99% decline in sales. The Maruti Celerio was the second biggest loser with a 81% decline in dispatches in YoY comparison for December, followed by the Maruti S-Presso with a 78% decline.
- WagonR also reported a YoY decline of 48% in December.

Hatchback Segment December 2022 Car Sales - MoM Change
- Baleno claimed the top spot with nearly 17,000 dispatches in the month of December, but saw a 19% drop in dispatches
- Kwid was the top MoM gainer in December with 22% growth in dispatch figures.
- Tiago was the second best top gainer in MoM comparison, with a 19% growth
- Among the notable MoM losers were the Jazz, Celerio and S-Presso, with their dispatches declining by 85% for Jazz and around 56% for Celerio and S-Presso
