In this December 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all SUVs in India. We’ll also share our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales, where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all SUVs for the last 6 months will give you an idea about their 6-month sales trend.
SUV Segment December 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change

Top Gainers (YoY):
- Mahindra Scorpio N + Classic (D1 - SUV): The Mahindra Scorpio N + Classic emerges as the top gainer in Year-on-Year (YoY) comparisons, experiencing a substantial growth of 62.14%. Sales increased from 7,003 units in December 2022 to 11,355 units in December 2023.
- Tata Nexon (B2 - SUV): The Tata Nexon secures the second spot among the top gainers, with a YoY growth of 26.81%. Sales rose from 12,053 units in December 2022 to 15,284 units in December 2023, showcasing a considerable increase in popularity and market acceptance.
- Tata Punch (B1 - SUV): The Tata Punch follows closely with a YoY growth of 30.24%. Sales increased from 10,586 units in December 2022 to 13,787 units in December 2023.
- Tata Safari (D1 - SUV): The Tata Safari experienced a YoY growth of 40.01%, with sales increasing from 1,502 units in December 2022 to 2,103 units in December 2023.
- Toyota Fortuner (D2 - SUV): The Toyota Fortuner recorded a remarkable YoY growth of 93.64%. Sales surged from 1,603 units in December 2022 to 3,104 units in December 2023, indicating strong demand for this SUV model.

Top Losers (YoY):
- Citroen C3 (B2 - SUV): The Citroen C3 faces the highest YoY decline, with sales dropping by -66.16%. The unit sales decreased from 913 in December 2022 to 309 in December 2023, suggesting challenges or changing market dynamics for the C3 model.
- Kia Sonet (B2 - SUV): The Kia Sonet witnessed a significant YoY decline of -99.83%, with sales plummeting from 5,772 units in December 2022 to 10 units in December 2023.
- Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (A - SUV): The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso experienced a YoY decline of -94.63%, with sales decreasing from 1,117 units in December 2022 to 60 units in December 2023.

- Renault Kiger (B2 - SUV): The Renault Kiger emerges as the top gainer in Month-on-Month (MoM) comparisons, experiencing a significant growth of 63.21%. Sales increased from 530 units in November 2023 to 865 units in December 2023, indicating a notable surge in demand for the Kiger.
- Volkswagen Tiguan (C2 - SUV): The Volkswagen Tiguan secured the second spot among the top gainers, with a MoM growth of 83.33%. Sales rose from 150 units in November 2023 to 275 units in December 2023, showcasing a substantial increase in popularity and market acceptance
- Skoda Kodiaq (D1 - SUV): The Skoda Kodiaq recorded a MoM growth of 78.57%, with sales increasing from 126 units in November 2023 to 225 units in December 2023.
- Hyundai Tucson (D1 - SUV): The Hyundai Tucson experienced a MoM growth of 77.12%, with sales rising from 118 units in November 2023 to 209 units in December 2023. This positive trend indicates an uptick in demand for Tucson.
- Volkswagen Taigun (C1 - SUV): The Volkswagen Taigun secured the fifth position among the top gainers, with a MoM growth of 38.68%. Sales increased from 1,771 units in November 2023 to 2,456 units in December 2023, reflecting improved market performance.

- Maruti Suzuki S-Presso (A - SUV): The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso faces the highest MoM decline, with sales dropping by -96.81%. Unit sales decreased from 1,883 in November 2023 to 60 in December 2023, suggesting a substantial decrease in market demand for the S-Presso.
- Kia Sonet (B2 - SUV): The Kia Sonet witnessed a significant MoM decline of -99.84%, with sales plummeting from 6,433 units in November 2023 to 10 units in December 2023.
