American auto major Ford has launched the CNG version of its Aspire compact sedan in India. The new Ford Aspire CNG is available for sale only in the two base model trims, namely Ambiente and Trend Plus. Ford is targeting the fleet market in the company with Aspire CNG variants. The Aspire CNG Ambiente variant has been priced at Rs. 6.27 lakhs and while the Aspire CNG Trend Plus has been tagged at Rs. 7.12 lakhs (prices, ex-showroom India).
The Ford Aspire CNG has been endowed with first in segment ‘suspension type cylinder fitment’ that frees up boot space and does away with the primary hassle of CNG cars. Moreover, the car will be requiring service for the CNG Kit only once every two years or every 20,000 km. The CNG kit will be integrated with the car’s ECU (Engine Control Unit) in order to ensure optimized gas flow in each of the cylinders.
Due to the added CNG kit, the Ford Aspire CNG is a bit heavier as compared to its regular petrol counterpart. Thus, Ford has also installed a front stabilizer bar in the car to provide better handling and comfort. The American auto major has also focused on the safety quotient of the Aspire CNG variants and they have been endowed with front dual airbags, driver and front passenger seat belt reminder and Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distributer as standard.
Ford has also added a handful of more features on the two CNG variants of the Aspire. The Aspire CNG boasts of a 7 inch touch screen infotainment system along with in-built satellite navigation system, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity, climate control, remote central locking, all four power windows and reverse camera with parking sensors. These features are not available on the regular petrol or diesel counterparts in the same trim level.
The entry-level Ford Aspire CNG Ambiente variant has been priced at a premium costs Rs. 72,414 more over the regular petrol version. On the other hand, the Aspire CNG Trend Plus costs a premium of Rs. 52,414 only over its petrol counterpart. Both the CNG variants of the Aspire will be coming with CNG kits fitted at the dealer-level, as Ford is not providing factory fitted CNG kits. For this Ford has joined hands with a company called Lovato, which will supply as well as install the CNG kits in the cars at the dealer level. Ford says that the Aspire CNG variants will require just 46 paise per km running cost. Ford is also offering 2 years/ 1,00,000 Km warranty on the Aspire CNG variants.
Under the hood, the Ford Aspire CNG gets powered by the same petrol mill, which is the new 1.2 litre Dragon series engine that generates 96 PS of peak power and 120 Nm of top torque. The CNG version is only available in the petrol powered Aspire. The petrol engine gets paired to a 5 speed manual transmission.
When market completion is concerned, the Ford Aspire fights in the highly competitive sub-4 meter compact sedan segment of India, which has several models like the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent and others. However, among these only the Hyundai Xcent Prime has CNG option.
