Kia Carens Clavis EV Launched At Rs. 17.99 - 24.49 Lakh | V3Cars
Kia have just revealed the Carens Clavis EV and also announced the ex-showroom prices for the Indian market. The Carens EV is available in 3 variants with prices ranging from 17.99 lakh and going up to Rs. 24.49 lakh. It gets 2 battery options — 42kWh and 51.4kWh. The smaller battery pack is available in the lower 2 variants while the larger one is available in higher 2 variants.

At these launch prices, the Clavis EV top model is Rs. 5.0 lakh away from the BYD eMax 7 top variant. Meanwhile, the starting price of the Clavis EV is almost Rs. 9.0 lakh less than eMax 7 base model. It’s also worth noting that the Carens EV is Rs. 1.0 lakh pricier than the Creta EV.

Kia Carens/Clavis — Carving A Space For Itself
Kia have a strong presence in the MPV segment with their Carens/Clavis as it perfectly bridges the gap between the popular Ertiga/XL6 and the Innova Crysta/Hycross. It’s larger than the Ertiga/XL6 but smaller than the Hycross/Crysta. In terms of perceived quality, it’s superior to both of its Japanese rivals. On the feature front, the Clavis top variant is right up there with the Hycross top model. It also gets a bunch of engine transmission options (petrol-manual, turbo petrol-manual and automatic, diesel-manual and automatic). The Innova has only diesel-manual with the Crysta while the Hycross gets petrol-automatic and hybrid petrol-automatic. No manual.
Hence, the Carens/Clavis has managed to carve out a niche that is equally preferred among personal use buyers as well as commercial buyers.
Making Room With EV
Just like the regular Carens/Clavis, the electric version, the Clavis EV will manage to attract individual buyers as well as commercial buyers. Its electric powertrain will make it extremely cheap for commercial buyers to operate the car. Meanwhile, EV buyers interested in a practical MPV for 3-row use have the option of BYD eMax 7, which starts from Rs. 26.90 lakh. So, this time around, the Kia will be challenging BYD’s might but at a lower price point.
Kia Clavis EV Specs (Power, Torque, Range)
The Clavis EV gets the same powertrain options as the Creta Electric. So, you have 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery pack options. However, Kia are claiming to offer a longer range than the Creta Electric. With the smaller pack, the car has a range of 404km while the larger pack has a range of 490km. For comparison, the Creta EV 42kWh and 51.4kWh battery packs have a claimed range of 390km and 473km, respectively.
Since MPVs are generally preferred by people who tend to usually move with at least the 2nd row occupied, we expect the Carens EV to deliver lesser real-world range than the Creta Electric. We are expecting a 303km range from the smaller battery pack while the larger one should deliver around 370km with mixed load and driving conditions. Thus, you can expect a mileage of 6.5kmpu from the Clavis EV after factoring in some transmission losses.
In terms of power and torque output, the Clavis EV has 255Nm of torque with both battery options but the smaller one has a lower power output of 135PS against 171PS with the larger pack. Just like the Creta Electric, the Carens EV also charges at speeds of up to 7.2kW from an AC Type-2 connector and up to 50kW with a CCS-2 DC charger.
