American auto giant Ford might be providing its car platform to its partner, the Indian SUV master Mahindra & Mahindra. As per the reports, Mahindra & Mahindra is discussing with Ford to acquire its vehicle platform in order to build a planned all-new electric sedan model.

If this happens, it will be a very beneficial deal for both the company’s. While Ford is supposed to provide its car platform to Mahindra, the later will be sharing its low-cost electric vehicle (EV) technologies with Ford. Thus, while Mahindra & Mahindra will get a suitable platform to build its planed electric sedan and most probably more, Ford will be able to utilize Mahindra’s affordable EV technology to bring out the EV versions of its models such as the Figo hatchback and Aspire sedan.

A source very close to the development who requested anonymity revealed to the media that the Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, Pawan Goenka along with other top official at Mahindra Electric, had inspected the Ford platform while signing the partnership with Ford in the month of September.

The source added by saying that the Indo-American partnership will be benefiting both the companies. Ford will be getting the electric technology from Mahindra & Mahindra. And till now, that is the only direction of discussion between the two companies.

Ford has drastically shrunk its Indian product portfolio to just five models, which includes its iconic Mustang that comes as a fully imported car in India. Ford India has just around 3 percent of market share and certainly wishes to gain more in the future.
