Skoda debuted the fourth-gen Octavia in November 2019 and the sedan was slated to launch in India by September 2020. But due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the launch of the sedan was pushed to early 2021. So, while the launch is still a few months away, the fourth-gen sedan was recently spotted testing in the country giving us a fair idea of what to expect when it finally goes on sale in the country.
The India-spec Octavia looks similar to the euro-spec model. Upfront, it features the latest iteration of the Skoda’s butterfly which gets a thick chrome surround. It is flanked by new sleeker single-piece LED units. The bumper is also redesigned with LED fog lamps. It looks quite similar to the bumper seen on the recently launched Superb facelift.
The side profile looks sporty with a sloping roofline and a shard shoulder line running across the length of the sedan. Although the test mule features single tone alloy wheels, the high-spec models are likely to get bigger dual-tone alloys.
The sedan’s sporty character is visible at the back as well with those sharp-looking tail lamps flanking the SKODA lettering on the boot lid.
Talking about the dimensions, the new Octavia will be bigger than before. Here is a comparison.
Although the spy shots do not reveal anything about the interior of the sedan, we expect it to be similar to the euro-spec model. In terms of features, expect the new Octavia to get a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system, multiple airbags, dual-zone AC, front and rear parking sensors, panoramic sunroof and connected car tech.
Under the hood, the Octavia is likely to be offered with petrol engines only. It is expected to get a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine making 190PS and 320Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Skoda might also offer a smaller 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine on the new Octavia. It makes 150PS and 250Nm mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Skoda already offers this engine on the Skoda Karoq where it comes mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic.
Prices of the new Octavia are expected to range from Rs 18 lakh to Rs 26 lakh. It will continue to take on the likes of the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic. That said, Skoda currently offers the previous-gen Octavia RS 245 in India which is priced at Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom India).
