Czech car maker, Skoda has officially unveiled the much talked about Vision X concept at the ongoing Geneva International Motor Show 2018. The new Skoda Vision X concept is the company’s vision of an advanced urban crossover model. The Vision X concept is visually striking and flaunts a highly aggressive design language which follows in the line of Skoda’s new SUV lineup - Kodiaq and Karoq. This makes the Skoda Vision X concept look quite production ready although it has the flashy looks of a concept.
Under the hood of the new Skoda Vision X concept, the Czech car maker has also showcased a new sustainable drivetrain concept which amalgamates a CNG and petrol fuel powered engine along with an electric motor. Skoda says that this new drivetrain offers instant power delivery along with enhanced nimbleness, and also has a low CO2 emission level of less than 90 grams per km.
The Skoda Vision X concept previews the Czech auto maker's next generation SUV line-up, and the production model of this concept SUV is expected to be positioned below the 5-seater compact Karoq SUV. According to Skoda the Vision X with its compact exterior design, smart interior space and advanced infotainment functionalities is a perfect mixture to cater to the requirements of the modern and active lifestyle of its target groups. The new Vision X will be offering great drive experience both in the busy city roads and also during off-road adventures.
When exterior design is concerned, the new Skoda Vision X concept flaunts Skoda’s patent crystalline design philosophy, which includes the butterfly grille, flashy LED headlamps, bright LED DRLs, stylish 3D 20 inch two-tone alloy wheels and eye-catching LED tail lamps among other styling features. The Vision X concept is 4,255 mm long, 1,807 mm wide and 1,537 mm tall and it sits on a wheelbase measuring 2,645 mm. It has a boot capacity of 380 litres.
On the inside, the Vision X concept also gets the company’s latest infotainment system loaded with connectivity features and offers innumerable digital services along with functions such as directing the driver to available parking spaces, ensure children get picked up from school if their guardians are late and lots more.
The new Skoda Vision X concept SUV gets powered by an advanced hybrid system that comprises of a 1.5L G-TEC 4-cylinder turbocharged mill that can use CNG. The engine is supported by two electric motors and a starter generator. Together, the combustion engine and the second motor offer continuous all-wheel drive capability. The electric motors draw its juice from a 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack, which automatically gets recharged while driving through the regenerative braking system. The drive system can offer a power output of 128 bhp along with a peak torque of 200 Nm, while the electric motors offer an additional torque of 70 Nm. There’s also a reserve petrol tank to ensure that the Vision X concept offers a range of up to 650 km. The concept SUV can sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 9.3 seconds and offer a top speed of 200 kmph.
