Tata Tiago has recorded its highest monthly sales by selling 9277 units in August 2018. According to tha manufacturer, the northern states and union territories of Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab contributed the largest volumes in August and the variant that contributed the most has been the top of the line XZ variant.
Commenting on the August 2018 sales, S N Barman, vice-president, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “The Tiago brand continues to go from strength to strength and last month’s numbers are a testament to that. These volumes can be attributed to the pre-festive season demand for the car. Since the launch in April 2016, we have sold over 170,000 units and it is the only product in the hatchback segment which is still registering a strong growth despite being in its third year of production. We are confident that with the introduction of newer models such as the recently-launched Tiago NRG, the brand will continue to thrive in the foreseeable future.”
Recently, Tata Motors launched the Tiago NRG, positioned as the ‘Urban Tough-roader’, a SUV inspired vehicle in order to expand the hatchback brand. With Tiago NRG, the automaker has entered a new segment and is aiming at tapping new sets of buyers for the company. Available on sale currently, the Tiago NRG is priced at Rs 5.49 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 6.31 lakh for the diesel version (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Being the first Tata model to be based on the IMPACT design language, Tata Tiago was first launched in 2016 in the Indian market. Originally going to be called 'Zica', Tata decided to rename the model 'Tiago' after realizing Zica’s similarity to the deadly Zika virus affecting people badly during that time. Available in 20 trims, pricing for Tata Tiago starts from Rs 3.39 Lakh and goes up to Rs 6.04 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The hatchback comes powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine and a 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 84 BHP of power and 114 Nm of torque, while the diesel engine churns out 70 BHP of maximum power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission along with an optional AMT. the fuel efficiency returned by the petrol variant is around 23 kmpl and on the diesel variant is around 27 kmpl and these fuel efficiency figures are the highest in its segment. The hatch also offers different driving modes-Sport, Eco and City to make the ride and driving more comfortable.
Talking about the features, the Tiago hatchback offers Connect Next Infotainment system, Turn-by-turn navigation app, 22 utility spaces, MID, Height Adjustable Driver Seat, cooled glove box, steering with tilt adjustment, Steering mounted audio and phone controls and ORVMs with LED turn indicators. In terms of safety features, the car offers an engine immobilizer, driver and co-driver airbags, follow-me-home lamps, Rear Parking Sensors, Day and Night IRVM, ABS with EBD and corner stability control and front fog lamps.
After expanding the Tiago brand with Tiago NRG, Tata Motors is also preparing to launch the JTP version of the hatchback during Diwali in the country. The Tiago JTP is expected to come powered by the Nexon’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with better tuning for improved performance. Currently, the engine is capable of 110 hp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed AMT gearbox.
