The Honda Brio compact hatchback model has been around for quite long and us in dire need of a full overhaul. Although the Brio is a very capable car with a zesty and unique styling, the model is definitely aging now. The second generation Honda Brio is thus, a long awaited launch for those who like it that is, as in India it has long become a slow seller. The Japanese auto major has recently unveiled the new Honda Small RS concept at the ongoing 2018 Indonesia International Motor Show, and this concept is highly speculated to be the preview of the second generation Bio.
The new Honda Small RS concept comes with a fresh styling approach and looks more like a production ready model, if the concept centric add-on frills are not considered. The concept offers a sharp, striking and contemporary appeal over the ongoing Brio hatch. The Brio based subcompact sedan, the Honda Amaze recently made its world premiere in its second-gen avatar at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo 2018.
The new Honda Small RS concept comes with some ornamental elements to offer the flashy concept appeal, such as a huge spoiler, body styling add-ons and larger wheels. However, as previously said, excepting these elements, the concept looks very much production ready. Honda has not revealed any concrete details about the next generation Brio as of now, but in all probabilities, it will be based on the new platform that the all new Amaze debuted.
As for the visual differentiations between the current generation Bio and the Honda Small RS concept, the large bulbous headlights of the Brio are a contrast against the sleeker sweptback headlights which are pretty similar to the new-gen Amaze. The Small RS Concept also flaunts traditional reflector-type headlamps like the new Amaze.
The concept’s front fascia is also reminiscent of the all new Amaze, which definitely makes it apparent that it is the next-gen Brio preview. Moreover, both these cars are also similar to the refreshed Mobilio which was never introduced in India, as the model got discontinued. Going by the side profile, it seems like the next-gen Brio will be slightly bigger than its predecessor, which will translate into better interior space.
Most importantly, the signature all-glass hatch-door of the Brio has been dropped, and the concept model flaunts a conventional hatchdoor instead. The rear design and the new tail lights look very similar to its rival Tata Tiago hatch.
The latest-gen Honda Brio’s cabin details are not known, but it is likely to be very similar to the all new Amaze. The first-gen Brio has been around since 2011 and its new generation model will be more than welcome in the market.
The next generation Brio is expected to hit the Indonesian market very soon, while its arrival in India is likely to happen sometime next year. For the ongoing fiscal, Honda Cars India has already announced that it will be launching three models, namely – the all new Amaze, the Civic and the new generation CR-V.
