Hyundai i20 Turbo N To Come In 2 Variants Based On Asta, Asta-O

by Mahesh Yadav on Saturday, Aug 14 2021

Hyundai could officially reveal the details of the i20 N6 and N8 variants in the next couple of weeks and launch the car early in September.

    Hyundai i20 N-line

A recent pair of leaked documents suggest that the Hyundai i20 N-Line will come in 2 variants based on the top 2 trims of the regular i20. The engine-transmission options will include the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with DCT and ACMT (auto-clutch manual transmission). The Asta and Asta (O) based variants will become N6 and N8 trims in the i20 N line. The N6 variant will only get ACMT while the N8 will get ACMT as well as DCT automatic transmission. Hyundai could officially reveal the details of the i20 N6 and N8 variants on August 24, 2021. The sales could commence within a couple of weeks of the reveal, possibly early in September.

We’re expecting to see a bunch of cosmetic touches on the i20 N line like:

    • Sportier front and rear bumpers
    • Roof spoiler
    • Rear diffuser
    • Side skirts
    • N-Line badging on the front grille and boot lid
    • N-Line badging on the dashboard
    • N-Line badging on the steering
    • Flat bottom steering
    • Dual-exhaust tips
    • Contrast stitching on the upholstery
    • Contrast stitching on the steering
    • Metal pedals
    • Contrast front brake callipers
    • Contrast dual-tone roof as standard
    • Fancier alloy wheel

Other than the cosmetic updates, we’re not expecting the i20 N-Line to get any updated mechanicals. So, expect the same suspension setup, braking hardware, tyres, and performance figures. The i20’s 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is already light on its feet and doesn’t need a bump to justify wearing the N badges. It has class-leading 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque. The torque peaks quite low in the rev range and the output is also wide and flat. This kind of tuning not only helps with better performance but also aids in drivability.

Further, helping with the drivability is the auto-clutch manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions. On the feature front, expect the i20 N6 to carry an identical feature set as the Asta while the i20 N8 will mimic the Asta (O)’s feature list.

Here’s the list of Hyundai cars that could get the N-Line treatment and the type of upgrade they may receive:
