We all know that Hyundai is working on the launch of the 2018 Santro or the codenamed AH2 hatchback in the country. According to the reports, the South Korean automaker will launch the hatchback on 23rd October 2018. However, Hyundai is yet to make the official announcement regarding the launch. Recently, Hyundai had launched the 'Hyundai naamkaran' contest to invite suggestion for the market name of its entry-level car. The winning entry was supposed to be used as a suffix to the 'Santro' brand and the media and customers opine that the name should be brought back with the AH2.
Hyundai had dropped a teaser sketch showing the design of the car. According to the sketch, the upcoming Santro despite of its modern designing will continue to bear its signature tall-boy lines. The new-gen hatchback will be positioned between the Eon and Grand i10 in Hyundai’s product line-up and will carry a similar design language with strong lines, LED DRLs and the full-face grille seen on the facelifted Grand i10. The new Santro also features large tail lights like the Eon and like the updated Grand i10, the new Santro will be offered with black inserts in the bumpers.
At the inside, the new Hyundai Santro will come with a three-spoke steering wheel with audio mounted controls as well as a touchscreen system that can be operated through steering mounted controls. Rumors also suggest that the dash-mounted gear lever, cabin trim design and other bits will be offered resembling of the Grand i10 making the new-gen Hyundai Santro a lot more premium than it ever was. The interior of the new Santro is expected to feature a dual-tone theme in the form of black and beige color. The seat upholstery will also be premium and will also match the interior color.
Though there is no official confirmation, but the 2018 Santro is expected to come powered by by an 800cc petrol engine with an AMT gearbox. Other than that, the new Santro will be equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 2018 Hyundai Santro is going to mark the debut of Hyundai's new AMT gearbox. Lately, there has been a rise in popularity of automatic and AMT versions in the country and this is a good platform to launch the AMT version of the Santro now.
The report also states that the new Hyundai Santro will be officially revealed on October 9, 2018. Hyundai has been testing the new Santro on Indian roads for quite some time and the name of the car will be also revealed on October 9 along with the car. Santro has been the car that helped Hyudnai grow in the Indian auto market in the beginning and the new Hyundai Santro will replace the Eon which has been a low-selling car in the Indian market. The automaker must be expecting the new Santro to repeat history and become the most loved car in the segment. When launched, the 2018 Hyundai Santro will take against the likes of the Maruti Alto K10, Renault Kwid and the Tata Tiago in the segment.
