Ending a long wait, Jaguar has introduced the new 2.0 litre Ingenium petrol engine in the car market of India. The fully in-house developed new Ingenium petrol mill is now available in India under the hoods of the Jaguar XE and the Jaguar XF sedan models. In the XE and XF models, the new 2L Ingenium petrol engine replaces the older 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine which was sourced from Ford, as the American auto major used to own the Jaguar Land Rover brand before Indian auto giant Tata Motors.
The Jaguar XE sedan powered by the new Ingenium petrol mill has been tagged at a price range of Rs. 35.99 lakhs to Rs. 44.46 lakhs. On the other hand, the Jaguar XF sedan lineup now has a starting price of Rs. 49.80 lakhs, which goes up to Rs. 58.93 lakhs.
The new 2.0 litre Ingenium petrol is being offered in two states of tune in both the jaguar XE and XF sedan models. The lower tune of the new petrol mill offers 200 PS of top power and a peak torque of 320 Nm, while the high tune version will generate 250 PS of power and a 365 Nm of torque. The engine will come paired to an 8 speed automatic transmission gearbox.
The older 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine which powered the XF sedan was offered in a single state of tune of 240 PS of power and 340 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the XE was offered only in the lower tune – 200 PS and 320 Nm. The high tune version of the new petrol engine is thus, more powerful than the previous petrol mill. However, the British luxury auto brand has taken the decision to continue offering the old Ford sourced petrol mill under the hood of the XJ LWB luxury sedan model, at least for the time being. The new generation model of the XJ is likely to be introduced in the international markets next year. Thus, it is thought that Jaguar is going to introduce the new Ingenium petrol engine in the new limousine.
In terms of diesel powertrains, the Jaguar XE and the XF sedan models have been already getting powered by the 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel motor for some time. This motor is capable of generating a peak power of 180 PS and a top torque of 430 Nm, and it made its Indian debut with the second generation model of the XF sedan that launched in the country in September 2016. The engine was then introduced under the hood of the XE in the month of May last year. This new Ingenium diesel engine powers several JLR models including the Jaguar F-Pace and the Land Rover Discovery Sport, which replaces the previous Ford sourced 2.2 litre diesel engine. Thus, the new in-house developed Ingenium petrol and diesel engines are replacing the old Ford engines under the hoods of the JLR models.
