Fiat is banking a lot on the Jeep brand’s charisma to charm the Indian buyers, as the cars under the Fiat brand have not been able to be very successful in India. Fiat owned iconic American SUV brand, Jeep is finally seeing good times with the launch of the new Compass, which is expected to draw massive volumes for the company in the coming months.
After facing lack luster sales with its exorbitantly priced big SUVs, Jeep launched the relatively smaller, first India made Jeep Compass on 31st of July, 2017 and the company opened bookings for the vehicle a couple of weeks before its official Indian launch. 5000 bookings were confirmed during the launch the Jeep Compass. And as per a report, the Jeep Compass has received bookings of more than 8,100.
The Jeep Compass is being manufactured at the Tata Group and FCA joint venture’s production facility in Ranjangaon. Going by the heavy demands for the Compass, FCA is going to increase the production capacity for the SUV. This is great news for Fiat indeed, as the company’s Indian manufacturing facility is going to ramp up production for a product in more than a decade’s time. The highly awaited new upcoming Tata Nexon is also being produced at this same plant.
As per a report Jeep has already collected revenues of around $245 million from its newly launched Compass. Thus, the Compass is all set to be a highly profitable model for FCA India. The company had invested a whopping $280 million in the Jeep Compass project, and as per sources once the bookings cross 10,000 units, the company would be generating more money than it had invested to setup the production line and localization of the SUV.
Jeep India has managed to offer aggressive pricing for the Compass and it is expected that the company will achieve the bookings milestone of 10,000 units within the next couple of months. The company’s Ranjangaon facility is also the global production hub for the Jeep Compass for all right-hand-drive (RHD) international markets. However, the company is currently only concentrating on the domestic market’s demands, while global exports of the Compass from India are yet to begin. The Jeep Compass has certainly given a head-start to a positive time for the Jeep brand in India and its parent company FCA India. Nevertheless, it’s yet too early to call the Compass a blockbuster, but the SUV has all the right ingredients and the great brand power of Jeep to make it a massive success in the Indian car market.
The new Jeep Compass SUV is available for sale in India in a total of five model trims, namely Sports, Longitude, Limited, Longitude (O), Limited (O). The SUV is known as the baby Jeep Grand Cherokee for its similar highly aggressive design. The SUV gets powered by a 1.4 litre Multiair petrol mill and a 2 litre diesel mill option. The Jeep Compass has a price range of Rs. 14.95 lakhs to Rs. 20.65 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
