We caught a glimpse of JSW Motors’ upcoming Jetour T2-based SUV testing in Delhi NCR recently. The test mule was fully wrapped in camouflage, but its distinctive boxy proportions and several design details make it clear that it is based on the Jetour T2 sold in international markets.

The sighting comes shortly after JSW officially teased the upcoming SUV through a front-page advertisement in The Economic Times, where the company invited dealer partners to join its upcoming retail network.
Although the entire body of the test mule is covered in camouflage, the overall shape is unmistakable. The upcoming SUV features an upright, boxy silhouette with proportions that are similar to the Land Rover Defender.

The spy shots reveal a large glasshouse, a near-vertical bonnet and prominent wheel arches. The test vehicle also appears to feature large alloy wheels, which could measure either 19 or 20 inches on the final production model.
At the rear, the T2 features vertically oriented LED tail lamps positioned on either side of the tailgate. A horizontal high-mounted stop lamp is also visible at the top of the rear glass. The test mule also featured a square spare wheel cover mounted on the tailgate.

Only a portion of the front end is visible in the spy shots. However, the visible details suggest that the India-spec model will closely resemble the global-spec Jetour T2. The international model features circular LED headlights with horizontal LED DRLs, pixel-style fog lamps and a rugged front bumper.
While the SUV is currently known as the Jetour T2, JSW could launch the India-spec model under a completely different name.
Recently, JSW filed trademarks for several new model names in India, including:
JSW have not officially linked any of these trademarks to a specific upcoming vehicle. However, Combat and Adventura appear suitable for a rugged, boxy SUV such as the Jetour T2.
Of the names trademarked by JSW, Combat appears to be the most natural fit for the T2’s design and positioning.
The Jetour T2 has a deliberately rugged appearance, with its upright proportions, squared-off wheel arches and off-road-inspired styling. A name such as Combat could help position it as a lifestyle-oriented SUV with a more adventurous and tough image.
Adventura is another possible candidate. The name has obvious associations with travel, exploration and outdoor activities, which could suit the T2’s positioning as a rugged monocoque SUV capable of light off-road use.
Of the trademarked names, Adventura could potentially give the India-spec model a more lifestyle-oriented identity than Combat.
Cadet is another interesting possibility. However, the name could be used for a smaller or more entry-level SUV in JSW’s future product range.
At this stage, there is no confirmation that Combat, Adventura or Cadet will be used for the T2. Trademark filings do not guarantee that a name will eventually reach production, and JSW could also introduce the SUV under an entirely different name.

The India-spec T2 is expected to feature a range-extender electric powertrain. Unlike a conventional hybrid, a range-extender electric vehicle uses its electric motors to drive the wheels, while the petrol engine primarily functions as a generator to charge the battery. This means the T2 should deliver an EV-like driving experience while using its petrol engine to extend its driving range when required.
In international markets, the Jetour T2 range-extender is offered with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. It remains to be seen whether JSW will offer one or both drivetrain options in India.
The Jetour T2 is a large SUV by mainstream Indian standards.
The T2 is slightly longer, wider and taller than the Mahindra Scorpio N and is built on a monocoque platform.

The range-extender version of the Jetour T2 is sold in the UAE at the equivalent of around Rs. 35 lakh. If JSW locally assemble the SUV and achieve a reasonable level of localisation, the India-spec model could be priced competitively.
We expect the upcoming SUV to sit above mainstream D1-segment electric SUVs such as the Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9S, while potentially offering a more affordable alternative to luxury SUVs such as the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
