In this June 2023 car sales analysis article, we’ll look at the YoY and MoM change in sales figures of all D-segment cars in India. Where applicable, we’ll also include our observations based on the sales data and possible reasons behind a massive increase or drop in sales. Lastly, the table with monthly sales of all D-segment cars for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend.

D-Segment Cars June 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change

SUVs and MPVs continue to rule the D-segment. There are only 3 sedans and only 1 pick-up in the D-segment.
With the exception of the Toyota Hilux pick-up, the top 10 best-selling D-segment cars in the month of June 2023 were all SUVs or MPVs.
The Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic), Toyota Innova (Crysta + Hycross), Mahindra XUV700, Toyota Fortuner and Hector/Hector Plus took the top 5 spots in the sales ranking for the month of June.
The top gainer in the mass-market offerings in the D-segment from various manufacturers in June were the Scorpio sisters, with over 109% growth in the YoY comparison analysis.
The Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N pair was followed by the Innova pair, with a 23% YoY growth amongst the high-volume cars in the category.
Toyota Camry and Skoda Kodiaq sales doubled in June 2023 compared to June 2022.
The only losers in the YoY comparison were:
- Meridian with a 73.67% drop in dispatches.
- Safari with an 11% drop in dispatches.
- XUV700 with a 10.48% drop in sales.
The Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire reported zero sales in the month of June of 2023. In June 2022, 285 units of the Carnival luxury MPV were dispatched by Kia and just 48 units of the Vellfire were dispatched by Toyota..
The Alturas G4, Superb and Skoda Octavia are no longer on sale.

D-Segment Cars June 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change

Abou half the cars in the list saw a drop in June MoM comparison for the D-segment cars.
In terms of MoM performance, the Scorpio sisters were the best-selling cars in the D-segment but saw a decline of 7% in June over May.
The Toyota Camry was the top gainer in terms of MoM sales comparison, with a nearly 29.58% increase in dispatches compared to May.
Kia EV6 saw 47% decline in dispatches in June compared to May.
