Kia has showcased its Sonet / QYI subcompact SUV concept at the Auto Expo 2020.
Kia has only shown the exteriors of the Sonet as it's still a work-in-progress. The Sonet is expected to go on sale (launch) in August 2020, in time for the festivities. The Sonet / QYI is expected to come with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which makes 120PS of power at 6000rpm and 172Nm of torque between 1500 and 4000rpm. In the Venue, this engine is available with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Expect similar transmission options to be available with the Kia Sonet.
The biggest ground-breaking features worth noting is the availability of iMT (intelligent manual transmission). This is a clutch-less manual transmission, where you change the gear as you want without having to worry about the clutch. This should offer a cost-effective middle-ground between the manual and AMT automatic transmissions to help us deal with the traffic problem. Expect this technology to cost about Rs. 20-25,000 more than a comparable full-manual transmission.
