Land Rover India has launched the Range Rover Evoque Convertible at Rs 69.53 Lakh ex-showroom, India. India’s first luxury convertible SUV, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible is offered in only one variant - HSE Dynamic and offers a host of luring features.
Speaking at the launch, Rohit Suri, president & managing director, Jaguar Land Rover India (JLRIL), said: “We are excited to launch India’s first luxury SUV convertible today. The Range Rover Evoque Convertible combines the bold design and refinement of Evoque with a sophisticated folding roof. It adds another dimension to the Land Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal.”
Under the hood, the two-door model luxury convertible SUV is powered by a 2.0 litre Ingenium petrol engine with a compact 9-speed automatic transmission and power output of 237 BHP and peak torque of 340 Nm. The car can achieve a max speed of 217kmph and sprint from 0-100kmph in 8.1 seconds.
The fully loaded HSE Dynamic variant of the SUV is based on a reinforced monocoque chassis and gets reinforced door panels to ensure rigidity, borne out of the removal of the roof. There are four motors which provide the silent operation of the roof while the Z-fold mechanism just weighs in at 68 kg. It's quick to fold too and takes just 18 seconds to go all the way down and it can be taken down at driving speeds of up to 48 kmph as well however, it takes three seconds longer- 21 seconds to fold completely. Also, in order to maintain the durability of the used material, Land Rover has subjected it to extreme testing and made it undergo nearly 6750 test cycles of operation in temperatures ranging from -30 degree Celsius to 90-degree Celsius.
In terms of dimension, the newly launched Range Rover Evoque Convertible is longer than the regular Evoque at 4,370 mm but shorter in terms of width and height at 1,900 mm and 1,609 respectively. However, the wheelbase measuring 2,660 mm remains the same and the boot capacity goes up and now sits at a little over 250 litre. At the exterior, the SUV offers a two-tone orange and black shade with the A-pillars and the retractable soft-top roof colored in black and the lower body in bright orange along with adaptive Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, radiator grille, air intakes, bumper element, wheel arch cladding and ORVMs with some black treatment. At the inside, an all-black cabin suitable for four, with configurable ambient interior lighting, perforated Windsor leather seats, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition and navigation pro are the highlights offered.
The safety features include anti-lock braking systems (ABS), EBD, traction control, roll stability control, trailer stability assist and tire pressure monitoring system along with the All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) system which enables drivers to set and maintain a steady speed in challenging conditions and surround camera system that uses cameras placed around the vehicle to offer a near-360 degrees view. The SUV was first introduced in November 2015 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and is already on sale globally before making its way to the Indian market.
