Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch the 2018 Ciaz facelift in India on 20th August and the fuel economy figures have been leaked online ahead of the much anticipated launch. The leaked figures show one of the notable changes on the car will be its new petrol engine. Suzuki’s new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine will replace the outgoing car’s 1.4-litre K14B motor. The new engine will be capable of making 104 hp of maximum and 138.4 Nm of peak torque, which is 12 hp and 8.4 Nm more than that of the outgoing unit.
The leaked details also indicate the new petrol version being even more fuel efficient. The sources from Maruti Suzuki say that the new Ciaz petrol’s official ARAI-tested fuel economy stands at 21.56 kmpl for the manual version and 20.28 kmpl for the automatic, while that of the outgoing model stand at 20.73 kmpl for the manual and 19.12 kmpl for the automatic. However, before the new fuel economy figures too, Ciaz was one of the most fuel efficient sedans in the segment.
However, the incorporation of Suzuki’s SHVS mild-hybrid system with the new petrol engine can be credited for the improved fuel economy. So far, the tech was limited to the diesel Ciaz only, while the basic working remains the same, Maruti has opted for a dual-battery setup on the new Ciaz 1.5 petrol SHVS. The second battery will be a lead-acid unit and will only be used to power the air conditioner and headlamps when the start-stop system activates and shuts the engine down at long halts, according to the sources.
Talking about the diesel engine to be offered with the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the 90 hp and 200 Nm producing 1.3-litre turbo diesel unit will remain unchanged, while another all-new, in-house 1.5-litre diesel engine will make its way on to the upcoming Ciaz. Other than the powertrain options and specifications, the 2018 Ciaz will be offered in four variants, with the top two variants getting LED daytime running lamps and LED headlamps. At the back the Ciaz will get LED inserts for the tail-lamps for a more upmarket look, while the reports suggest about new LED fog lamps to be on offer too. However, the cabin is expected to feature an updated dashboard and a number of comfort features in order to make it more competitive among the rivals in the market. Apart from these, there will also be additional safety features on offer too such as ESP (electronic stability program), traction control and hill start assist. These will be standard across the range.
The manufacturer has already commenced the advanced bookings for the updates Ciaz at Nexa dealerships for an amount of Rs 11,000. Dealerships are also offering deals on remaining stock of the outgoing model of the Ciaz. The outgoing Ciaz model is currently priced from Rs 7.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The updated sedan will continue to rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid.
