Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch a bi-fuel version of the Dzire Tour S in the country. The automaker is planning to launch the CNG version of the sedan priced at Rs 5.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The reports have been leaked on the internet with all the specifications and details ahead of the official launch. The Dzire Tour S CNG is based on the last generation Dzire and will target the cab operators mainly as potential customers.
According to the reports, the Maruti Dzire Tour S CNG is currently under production and Maruti will start dispatching the car in the second half of April 2018 once the current stock of the petrol variants is cleared. Other than this, the CNG version of the sedan measures 3,995 mm in overall length, 1,695 mm in width and 1,555 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,430 mm and the car weighs 1,480 kg (gross weight). According to the Vehicle Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), all the dimensions are exactly the same as the regular 2nd generation Dzire which was on sale earlier.
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming Dzire Tour S CNG will get the 1.2 liter K-Series petrol engine that has been tuned to run on CNG as well. The car will get a factory-fitted CNG kit and tank while the transmission duty will be carried out by a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. On the other hand, the petrol engine will produce 83 Bhp of maximum power and 112 Nm of peak torque while on CNG the same engine will produce 74 Bhp of power. However, the torque figure of the engine while running on CNG have not been revealed yet as it is also expected to reduce by few percent. Apart from this, the sedan is also available with a turbocharged diesel engine 1,248cc displacement and generates 74 Bhp power and 190 Nm of torque and gets a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard.
The leaked reports suggest that the CNG model will be available in at least three color options- Pearl Metallic Arctic White, Metallic Silky Silver and Midnight Black. However, in terms of features, the compact sedan doesn’t get any changes other than the powertrain. Also, the Dzire Tour S CNG will be introduced in NCR region and other cities where there is demand for CNG cars. The decision to launch a CNG version of the Dzire Tour S is said to be a smart one by Maruti as CNG produces less pollution and the operating cost of the Maruti Dzire Tour S CNG will be lesser as compared to the petrol and diesel variants. However, it also has one drawback that the CNG tank size is smaller as compared to the normal fuel tank hence it needs to be refilled frequently.
Although the leaked documents reveal all the details about the CNG version of the Maruti Tour S but it doesn’t reveal the official launch date of the car. Stay tuned for official launch date of the upcoming Maruti Tour S CNG.
