Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus is all set to launch the NX300h in India on November 17 this year. Revealed at the Shanghai Motor show this year, this will be the hybrid version of smallest, luxury crossover by Lexus. Although, the dealers have already started taking bookings for the upcoming crossover SUV for an amount of Rs 5 lakh and the deliveries are likely to start from March 2018.
Likely to be positioned below the RX450h hybrid SUV, the hybrid version of the SUV will come powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor producing an output of 194 bhp. The motor comes paired to an electronically controlled CVT unit and the vehicle will be able to run on pure electric or petrol or a combination of both. Although, the engine will remain the same as the existing model, we can definitely expect the top-end F Sport trim option with the Lexus NX300h.
However, internationally, the Lexus NX is available with 3 engine options, a 2-litre turbocharged inline 4-cylinder direct injection petrol unit, a 2-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol mill, and a hybrid variant with a 2.5-litre inline 4-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor. The Hexa SUV offers front-wheel drive and 4x4 versions, and competes against premium vehicles such as the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Range Rover Evoque, etc.
In terms of looks, the NX300h looks quite similar to the RX450h as both of these vehicles come based on the same Lexus’ L-finesse design language. While the front profile is dominated by the signature Lexus spindle grill flanked by sleek LED headlamps that get J-shaped DRLs at the bottom, the sides on the other hand offer sharp character lines running below the windows and lower half of the doors. The highly sculpted tailgate that houses the wraparound split-LED tail lamps and rear spoiler dominate the rear of the car. Also, adding premiumness to the looks are the bulging wheel arches with plastic cladding that accommodate large alloy wheels.
At the interior, the upcoming Lexus NX300h comes loaded with a number of premium features such as a 10.3-inch multimedia display with a 10-speaker sound system, 10-way adjustable powered front seats and a two-zone automatic climate control system. The automaker might also offer ventilated front seats and a sunroof as the other highlights of the hybrid vehicle.
Currently, Lexus offers only three cars in the Indian market, the LX 450d, RX 450h and the ES 300h. These cars are sold through dealerships in New Delhi, Gurugram, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The upcoming Lexus NX will be the most affordable model in the company's portfolio and will be priced slightly lower than its existing ES sedan in the country. When launched, the NX300h is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 73 lakh to Rs 82 lakh as the high import duties on the CBU models in India will make it way expensive than its other competitors. Hence, considering the price, the crossover SUV will take against the cars such as the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5 in the country.
