Mahindra Alturas SUV To Be Launched On November 24, Bookings Commence
After creating a lot of buzz regarding its name, Mahindra Y400 SUV has finally been given the name ‘Alturas’. The SUV is all set to be launched in the Indian market on 24th November 2018 and the manufacturer has already commenced the pre- bookings for the Alturas in the country. The Mahindra Alturas G4 will replace the company's existing flagship model, the Ssangyong Rexton. The Alturas will sit above the XUV 500 in the carmaker’s line- up.
According to the official statement released by Mahindra, “Positioned in the high-end SUV segment, the Alturas G4 will compete with players that operate in the Rs 30+ lakh (ex- showroom) price range.” Also, Mahindra Alturas G4 is claimed to offer “luxury and exclusivity in its bold & imposing design & luxurious interiors. The carmaker also say that the “thrilling performance & off-road capability, unmatched safety and best-in-class features further enhance the Alturas G4 proposition.”
Talking about the Alturas G4, Veejay Nakra- M&M Chief of Sales & Marketing said, “The Alturas G4 represents a gateway into luxury for those who have reached the pinnacle of success in their lives. Being our most luxurious offering, exquisitely designed and crafted, we believe that the Alturas G4 name perfectly describes this product.”
The new Alturas SUV will have two variants on offer. A two wheel drive G2 trim and the top spec G4 variant with four wheel drive. The SUV will come with a 2.2- litre diesel motor that makes 175 bhp of power and generates 420 Nm of torque. This motor is mated to a seven- speed Mercedes- Benz sourced automatic transmission. However, a six- speed manual is available internationally as well. However, the international model with 6- speed AMT is unlikely to be sold in the Indian market. The SUV will also come supported by 2WD and 4WD drivetrain system.;
Mahindra had first showcased the SUV at the 2018 Auto Expo. Mahindra had earlier announced that production of the Y400 will begin in the second half of 2018. Since then, the SUV has been spotted testing a number of times in the country. In terms of features, the all- new Mahindra SUV will come equipped with electric sunroof, HID lights, dual- zone climate control, ventilated seats, nine airbags, 8- inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS and an electric parking brake.
The company’s Chakan-based facility in Maharashtra will serve as production hub for the SUV. While the official prices will be revealed during its launch, we already know that the SUV will be priced above Rs 30 lakh, ex- showroom. Also, Mahindra is yet to reveal the official specifications of the Alturas G4, the dimensions of the SUV are expected to be the same as the Rexton. The only major change on the outside is the front grille, which now holds the Mahindra logo instead of SsangYong. Dimensionally, the body- on- frame SsangYong Rexton G4 is wider than the Fortuner and longer than the Toyota SUV. Its overall height measures 1825 mm, which makes it shorter than the Fortuner. When launched, the Alturas G4 will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Isuzu mu- X in the segment.
