In order to promote the use of electric vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra has taken an initiative with Zoomcar for the development of the sustainable mobility ecosystem in Mysore. In order to be hired by the customers in the city, as the part of this initiative, Mahindra’s all-electric city smart car-20 e2oPlus vehicles, and two fast charging units will be placed on the Zoomcar platform.

Announcing the initiative, Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric, said: “Mahindra Electric has been at the forefront of making electric mobility a reality in India not just through electric vehicles but also technology and mobility solution development. We are happy to be partnering with Zoomcar to promote electric vehicle adoption in India. This initiative is aligned with the Mysore government’s vision of being a clean and green city. We are looking forward to the state developing electric vehicle infrastructure as per the policy to further promote shared electric mobility in the region.”

All these vehicles will see Zoomcar obtain customized EV financing as all these cars has been financed as a part of the Rs 2-crore-plus deal between Zoomcar and Mahindra Finance. Also, this initiative will help in promoting connected, shared and electric mobility as a model, in line with the recommendations in the NITI Aayog report on the government’s 2030 vision.

Also addressing the media on the occasion, Greg Moran, Co-Founder & CEO, Zoomcar said: “Zoomcar first introduced electric vehicles for commercial use in Karnataka back in 2013, and this announcement today represents a dramatic expansion of our electric vehicle vision for the state. Mysore has shown exceptional visionary leadership on various forward looking initiatives such as Public Bicycle Sharing in recent months.”

Adding further, He said, “The rollout of electric vehicles at scale coupled with best-in-class fast charging infrastructure is an extension of the Mysore government’s vision for a cleaner, greener India. Zoomcar, the country’s car rental company, is pleased to partner with the Mahindra Electric team once again to help accelerate the transition to an all-electric urban mobility model.”

Apart from these, to enhance the electric vehicle experience for Zoomcar’s customers, Mahindra Electric is also offering fast charging services. Hence, the automaker has installed charging units at Country Inn and Garuda Mall, which can be used by electric vehicle users currently. However, the automaker plans to have more units installed at key locations in the future with the support of the government. Also, both the Mahindra and Zoomcar tend to replicate this initiative in Chandigarh, Delhi and Hyderabad soon.

Although, it’s a good initiative taken by the companies in order to promote the next-generation of vehicles- the Electric ones, however, it also brings a lot of challenges for the companies. The buyers in the country are still very reluctant about buying an all-electric vehicle for them. This initiative will be a good option for them to try out the performance and feasibility of using electric cars in the country. Hence, Mahindra and Zoomcar will have to be careful in order to make this initiative successful and open doors for electric vehicles in a country like India.
