Mahindra Unveil 4 'Vision' Concept SUVs; Hints At Future Lineup | V3Cars

In a major announcement on Independence Day, Mahindra took the wraps off 4 new concept SUVs, collectively known as the “Vision” series. The concepts, which include the Vision S, Vision T, Vision X, and Vision SXT, showcase Mahindra’s ambitious future product strategy, previewing next-generation models for their popular Scorpio, Thar, and XUV/XEV families.

Vision S: The Future of the Scorpio Lineup

The Vision S concept is likely a preview of a new off-roader that will join the acclaimed Scorpio family. Its design is both modern and rugged, featuring a unique front lighting signature with vertically-stacked LEDs on either side, which form a bridge between the inverted L-shaped headlights. The front bumper houses what appears to be a radar unit, hinting at ADAS and other advanced safety technology. The concept also sports rugged elements like limb risers on the bonnet and roof-mounted lights, though these may be toned down for the eventual production model.

Vision T: The Next-Gen Thar

An evolution of the Thar.e concept shown last year, the Vision T offers a glimpse into the future of the Thar lineup. The “T” in its name directly links it to the iconic off-roader, and the design retains the Thar’s unmistakable DNA with a squarish bonnet, pronounced wheel arches, and bonnet latches. The lighting elements are particularly distinctive, with headlamps and tail lamps featuring a central, squarish element flanked by 2 vertical sections. The concept, which will be underpinned by the new nu_IQ modular architecture, also features all-terrain tyres and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, underscoring its off-roading credentials.

Vision X: A Sporty Crossover

The Vision X concept is a sporty, crossover-like SUV that is expected to spawn a new model in either the XUV or XEV brand. While it maintains an upright stance and high ground clearance, its design is sporty and dynamic, with a raked windshield and a coupe-like rear windscreen. The nose of the Vision X features Mahindra’s Twin Peaks logo, suggesting a new XUV model, while its closed-off and stylised grille hints at a potential electric (XEV) version. The slim lighting elements and shared cues with the XEV 9e further strengthen the possibility of it being a future electric offering.

Vision SXT: A Pickup With Lifestyle Appeal

A direct derivative of the Vision T, the Vision SXT is a new take on a lifestyle pickup. This concept is also based on the new nu_IQ monocoque modular architecture and shares many of its design elements with the Vision T, including the split grille and squarish bonnet. However, the SXT distinguishes itself with a pickup-like rear section and a small load area, emphasising its utility and outdoorsy appeal.

Despite being built on a monocoque platform, Mahindra intends for the SXT to have a strong off-road character and is expected to come with an all-wheel-drive option. This concept points to a new Thar-family model that caters to a growing demand for lifestyle pickup trucks.

The unveiling of these 4 concepts demonstrates Mahindra’s commitment to diversifying its portfolio with a focus on both traditional off-roaders and modern, tech-forward electric vehicles. The new nu_IQ modular architecture, which can support both ICE and electric powertrains, is a key part of this strategy, providing the flexibility needed to develop a wide range of SUVs for the future.
