The new 7-seater SUV based on SsangYong Rexton by Mahindra is ready to be launched this October in the country and the automaker is also preparing to launch new 5-seater SUV, codenamed S201 in India in the first quarter of 2019. Other than these, Mahindra & Mahindra is also planning to give a mid-life facelift to its popular small SUVs – the TUV300 and the KUV100. According to the reports, the Indian auto giant will bring the TUV300 facelift by 2019.
Talking about the further details about the Mahindra TUV300 facelift, the SUV will be offered with a number of cosmetic updates as well as the powertrain update. The SUV will also be capable to meet the new crash test norms that become applicable to all cars on sale in October 2019 and Mahindra has already started working on a BS- VI compliant engine for the vehicle to meet the new emission norms that will be applied from April 1, 2020 onwards.
Speaking about the upcoming Mahindra TUV300, Veejay Ram Nakra- M&M Chief of Sales and Marketing (Automotive Division) said, "We always said that we want to be full range SUV player and both these products (TUV300 and KUV100) are very important for us. We are investing substantially not only on the styling part but there would also be change in terms of technology and engineering to make it a better product. There has to be an economics to the platform for the electric version in terms of range, price for customer.”
Currently, the Mahindra TUV300 comes powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine that produces 100 bhp of maximum power and 240 Nm of peak torque while the transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. With the update, the SUV will be offered with better output and performance as well as a BS- VI compliant engine as Mahindra aims to boost sales of this rugged SUV with the facelift model.
In terms of features, we can expect double-barrel headlamps or projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, LED inserts in the tail-lamps, dual-tone alloy wheels and Mahindra’s new toothed grille seen on the Marazzo and the Scorpio facelift at the exterior. Not only the exterior, but the interior of the 2019 Mahindra TUV300 will also be offered with a number of updates including feature-rich 7-inch capacitive touchscreen system offered with the Marazzo and the XUV500 supporting android auto, Apple car play and Mahindra’s app suite, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and an electric power steering. Other expected features include cruise control, electronic foldable outside rearview mirrors among others.
The existing Mahindra TUV300 comes in the price bracket of Rs 8.31 lakh - 10.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the 2019 TUV300 is expected to be priced similar to the outgoing model. Currently, Mahindra is selling around 3,000 units of the model per month and with the facelift the automaker is aiming to sell around 4,000 units per month. Also, Mahindra has lately introduced an extended version of the TUV 300 - the TUV 300 Plus at Rs 9.47 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Being a 9-seater vehicle, it comes in three variants- P4, P6 and P8.
