Scoop: Mahindra XEV 9e 4WD In The Pipeline To Compete Against Harrier EV 4WD | V3Cars
We have recently learned from a somewhat reliable source that Mahindra are already working on the dual-motor version of the XEV 9e with 4WD capabilities. This vehicle will go up against the upcoming Harrier EV’s 4WD variants. It’s worth highlighting that the track record of our source with respect to Mahindra’s product plans and leaks is a little spotty sometimes and spot-on in other cases. However, the information we have received from the source and what we know already aligns quite well.

Here are 3 reasons why we think this may be a legit scoop from the source:
- Firstly, we know that the INGLO platform Mahindra are using for their EVs is compatible with up to 2 motor setup. So, it’s only a matter of time before Mahindra bring dual-motor versions of their electric SUVs.
- Secondly, the 2 EVs have been around long enough to give their engineers time to fix any critical bugs and issues in production while addressing whatever they can for their early adopters. While the single motor versions get their issues ironed out, the R&D team could be working towards implementing the 2-motor setup so they work in tandem to deliver the best performance and efficiency.
- Lastly, the Harrier EV dual-motor with 4WD is going on sale soon. For the Harrier EV 4WD, Tata will end up doing a good amount of legwork to convince buyers that they need a 4WD EV. Should Tata do their job well, it’ll give Mahindra a nice launch pad to capitalise on that front while delivering better performance, with better features and arguably better design.
After all, Mahindra are the leaders in 4WDs. Not Tata. In fact, with the launch of the Harrier EV, Tata will finally have ONE 4WD vehicle in their portfolio while claiming to be the top S-U-V manufacturer in India.
For the sake of product differentiation, Mahindra may — at least initially — reserve the dual-motor setup for the XEV 9e. Should all this hold true, we expect Mahindra to bring the 9e 4WD around 2025 festive season or latest by Q1 2026. Depending on the success of the Harrier EV in the initial days after launch, Mahindra may move the launch plans of the 9e 4WD.
