Maruti Suzuki are now offering front centre armrest for the older Swift (2018 - 2024) and WagonR as an official accessory. The Swift’s armrest costs Rs. 2,990 while the WagonR’s costs Rs. 2,890. The armrest is padded and also has a small storage. Because of the narrower body of the WagonR, there’s limited space between the front seats and the WagonR’s armrest accessory is narrower than that of the Swift’s. Unlike some 3rd party aftermarket armrest accessories, this one doesn’t intrude with the operation of the handbrake.

They seem to have finally realised that most car buyers who have used a front centre armrest in a car find it indispensable. They have so far reserved this feature for the very higher or top variants of more expensive cars.

The most affordable car in Maruti’s portfolio with a front centre armrest straight from the factory is the Baleno. The Baleno’s top 2 variants (Zeta and Alpha) get this feature. The Baleno Zeta carries an ex-showroom price of Rs. 8.47 lakh. As for the cars on the Arena showroom floor, the Brezza is the most affordable car to get this feature and it is even stingy with offering a front armrest. The Brezza reserves this feature for the top model (ZXI Plus) while the lower ZXI gets alloy wheels and sunroof. The most affordable Brezza variant with a front armrest costs Rs. 12.58 lakh (ex-showroom).

Among other cars which get the front armrest as an official accessory are Honda Amaze and MG Comet. While we can’t yet confirm the price of the front armrest for the Amaze, the tiny little Comet’s front armrest carries an absurdly high price of Rs. 16,000.

If you haven't extensively driven a car with a front centre armrest, we highly recommend that you do so. A well-positioned and long armrest makes a world of difference in driving comfort even in a manual transmission car. If you have a Swift or a WagonR, you should absolutely get this accessory as it carries a reasonable asking price. Do note that the Swift’s armrest is available only for the previous generation Swift. So, if you own the older Swift, you can get this accessory. Based on the demand for this among older Swift owners, Maruti may also bring this option to the new Swift.
