Hatchbacks Segment May 2023 Car Sales - YoY Change
- In terms of sales, the B1-hatcback segment was the best-selling segment in the Indian market. 52,673 out of 1,04,508 hatchbacks were B1-segment cars, which makes up to about 50% of the total sales of the hatchbacks in the month of May.
- The Baleno was the best performing hatchback in May 2023 YoY comparison, with a 34% rise in dispatches as compared to May 2022.
- The Tiago was the second best performing car in the category, with a 78.32% YoY growth in May 2023.
- Tiago was closely followed by the Glanza hatchback from Toyota with a 75.44% YoY growth in May 2023 compared to May 2022.
- The Celerio from Maruti was the biggest loser, with around 49.73% decline in sales. The Kwid was the second biggest loser with a 47.57% decline in dispatches in the May YoY comparison.
- The S-Presso also reported a YoY decline of 36% in May
- The cars that were discontinued are:
- Honda Jazz (Discontinued in 2023)
- Hyundai Santro (Discontinued in 2022)
Hatchback Segment May 2023 Car Sales - MoM Change
- The Baleno claimed the top spot, with about 19,700 units sold in the month of May.
- Most cars in the category reported an MoM drop in May. The exceptions were:
- Glanza with 41.77% rise
- Altroz with 16.36% rise
- Baleno with 15.78% rise
- S-Presso with 11.94% rise
- Ignis with 10.97% rise
- Toyota Glanza was the top gainer for the May comparison.
- The Celerio emerged as the top MoM loser in the month of May with a 34.23% drop in dispatches in May compared to April.
- The other notable losers were:
- Kwid with 26.34% drop
- WagonR with 22.20% drop
- Alto pair with 18.88% drop
- Ioniq 5 with 15.34% drop
