German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz is going aggressive with its new electric vehicle models under its recently formed EV sub-brand EQ. Mercedes-Benz has launched its new EQ electric vehicle range at the Geneva Motor Show 2018 which includes three smart EQ versions - ForTwo, ForFour and ForTwo Cabrio. These fully electric battery operated smart vehicles are the first series models to have come from the newly formed EQ brand. smart is the only car maker in the world to offer an entire product portfolio in both conventional combustion engine and full electric versions.
Now, smart is busy converting its full range of cars to all-electric and put an end to the combustion engines. smart brand has been offering only its electric vehicles for sale in the car market of U.S, Canada and Norway since 2017. From the year 2020, smart is planning to sell only battery driven electric vehicles in Western Europe, and this will be then soon followed in the rest of the world’s auto market.
While speaking on the brand, the company's CEO, Dr. Annette Winkler said that smart is electric, innovative, intelligent and absolutely unique. With the smart EQ ForTwo and ForFour, the company is putting the very first products from the house of Mercedes-Benz Cars EQ range on the market in order to prove that electric mobility can be great fun.
These three versions of battery operated electric smart cars are the first series models from the EQ brand, and the company is all set to present the special Nightsky Edition models at the Geneva Motor Show as the first models don in the company’s trademark blue EQ exterior color shade. Apart from the special exterior paint job, the Nightsky Editions will also boast of the BRABUS exterior styling.
However, EQ is more than just electric vehicles, as the brand considers itself as a complete electric mobility eco-system which includes innovations, products, technologies and services. The EQ brand products ranges from electric vehicle models to wall boxes and charging services to homes energy storage units, and for being such a comprehensive solution, it is called EQ which is derivative of the word IQ and means Electric Intelligence. The EQ intends to present itself as a one stop solution for all the primary requirements of the electric vehicle buyers. It is focused on catering to the demands revolving around the electric mobility system, and it is intended to offer much more than just electric vehicles.
The newly unveiled smart EQ ForTwo, EQ ForFour and EQ ForTwo Cabrio all-electric models will be available with an optional 22 kW on-board fast charger from the month of May, 2018. This charger will be priced at €840 and will be able to charge up the batteries from 10 percent to 80 percent in less than 40 minutes. With this range, smart EQ has started its journey of offering the world innovative and intelligent electric mobility solutions that are set to change the future of the world’s auto industry.
