Mercedes-Benz India have announced the start of local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS at their Pune manufacturing facility, marking a major milestone for the brand in the country. This decision also places India among the top 5 global markets for Mercedes-Mayback, underlining the growing demand for luxury vehicles in the country.

Mercedes-Mayback GLS To Be Made In India

Since its debut in 2021, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS was sold in India as a CBU (completely built unit). The shift to local assembly should improve availability and reduce the waiting periods for the luxury SUV.

The India-spec Mercedes-Maybach GLS is powered by a 4.0L V8 petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. It produces 557PS of power and 770Nm of torque, with an additional boost from the electric motor. Power is sent to all 4 wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission, enabling the luxury SUV to sprint from 0-100kmph in under 5 seconds.

Key highlights include a first-class rear cabin layout with individual seats, executive console, massaging seats, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, e-Active body control suspension and signature Maybach 2-tone paint options.
