MG Motor has confirmed the highly awaited Hector SUV’s unveiling in India on the 15th of May, 2019. The MG Hector’s India launch has been highly anticipated for quite some time now, and the SUV has been also caught testing on the Indian roads several times sans camouflage on multiple occasions. Thus, most of the design details of the SUV is already known, but the official introduction of the vehicle will offer all the important features and specs details.
MG Motor India has also commenced the production of the new Hector SUV at its production facility in Halol, Gujarat in preparation of the SUV global introduction on 15th May. MG India has also set up a new assembly line, new body shop, new press shop, new parts distribution center along with a testing track and a world class training facility at its manufacturing facility in the period of past 18 months.
The Hector SUV will get a range of two petrol and diesel engine options. It will offer a 1.5-Liter turbocharged petrol mill generating 143 PS and 250 Nm, while the other petrol unit will add in a 48V mild hybrid system. This second petrol engine will probably offer features like a start-stop system, regenerative braking system along with torque fill technology. On the other hand, the diesel engine will be the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet unit that also powers the Jeep Compass and the new Tata Harrier. The oil burner will offer 173 PS and 350 Nm on the Hector. Transmission duties are likely to be handled by a 6-speed manual and a DCT automatic gearbox.
The MG Hector is quite a big SUV that flaunts premium styling and aggressive, sporty looks. It gets a split-headlamp setup along with LED DRLs. There is dual-tone, multi-spoke alloys, power tailgate, stylish LED tail lights, and classy chrome accents to add to the visual appeal.
On the inside, the Hector SUV will be highly packed with many premium and interesting features. The Hector will be a connected vehicle with embedded eSIM and a huge 10.4-inch touchscreen integrated iSMART Android-based OS infotainment system with 4G connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and a 7-inch all-digital instrument cluster. The SUV offers features like voice commands to operate various functions, and real-time traffic updates, tyre pressure monitoring system, weather updates and much more on the large infotainment display. Other premium features include a 360-degree camera, auto day/night IRVM and a large sunroof.
MG is going to start its business in the highly competitive Indian auto market with the Hector SUV, and thus, the Hector has the massive responsibility of how the Indian audience responds to MG. MG India is expected to keep Hector’s price competitive in the range of Rs. 15 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs.
The brand new MG Hector compact premium SUV will be locking its horns with the likes of the popular Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and Hyundai Tucson in the Indian market.
