JSW MG Motor India have patented the design of the Starlight 560SUV in India, hinting at its upcoming launch in our market. Based on the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in various international markets, the SUV is expected to arrive in India with multiple powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

In this article, we take a closer look at the top 5 things you need to know about the upcoming MG Starlight 560.
The design patent reveals the India-spec Starlight 560 will retain the boxy and upright proportions seen on the international model. It features a bold front end with a large grille, sharp LED headlamps and a rugged front bumper.

From the side, the SUV gets squared wheel arches, roof rails, body cladding and dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, expect connected LED tail lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler and a chunky bumper. Overall, the design leans more towards a practical, family-oriented SUV rather than a sporty crossover.
The Starlight 560 measures 4,745mm in length and boasts a wheelbase of 2,810mm, which makes it longer than the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO. We expect MG to offer the Starlight 560 with the option of a 5- and 7-seater layout. The long wheelbase should translate into generous cabin space, especially for 2nd and 3rd row passengers,

In international markets, the Starlight 560 is offered with petrol, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric powertrain options. The PHEV versions is significant for India as MG have already confirmed plans to introduce plug-in hybrid model in our market.
The Starlight 560 PHEV uses a 1.5L petrol engine with an electric motor, offering a claimed electric-only range of 100-125km and a combined range of over 1,000km. The Starlight 560 EV is expected to be offered with a battery capacity of 50-70kWh, which should give the SUV a range of up to 500km.

Inside, the Starlight 560 follows a minimalist design with a large floating touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver’s display. Key expected features include:

The MG Starlight 560 is expected to launch in India by late 2026. It will likely be positioned as a premium D1 segment SUV, rivalling models like the Mahindra XUV 7Xo and Tata Safari.
