Italian auto major has teased its new Cronos sedan for the very first time before its expected imminent official unveiling. The brand new Fiat Cronos is based on the new Argo hatchback and is the global replacement for the Fiat Linea. Fiat had revealed the new sedan’s name earlier, while now the company has gone ahead teasing it as well, which indicates that the model will make its world premiere very soon. The Cronos is expected to hit the market early in 2018.

While the Fiat Linea does not resemble its hatchback counterpart, the Punto at all, the all-new Cronos will be apparently looking like the booted version of the new Fiat Argo. However, the Fiat Cronos will be having its individualistic styling features and other updates to mark it apart from its hatch sibling while also offering a more premium appeal. Going by the teaser, which doesn’t clearly show the entire styling of the new sedan, it seems like the Cronos has near identical styling to that of the Argo’s up to the B-pillar. The headlamps also seem to have been simply picked from the Argo.

The design difference is all at the back though. The rear door of the Cronos has been restyled, while the added boot has been very nicely integrated into the overall hatchback body unlike a lot of hatch-turned sedan which look unsightly at the back. From whatever can be ascertained from the official darkened teaser, the new Fiat Cronos seems to look like a true sedan although it is based on and looks like the Argo hatch. The rear design’s highlight is the attractively designed wrap-around tail lights which come with LED graphics that are reminiscent of the Audi A3. On the whole, the new Cronos sedan is a very stylish and contemporary looking car and offers a similar aggressive appeal of the Argo, while offering a neatly integrated boot and a sloping roofline to complete a pretty picture. The silhouette of the car in the teaser certainly looks very alluring.

Under the hood, the Fiat Cronos will be dropping the smaller 1.0L, three pot petrol mill in the in the Brazilian market. The new sedan will be getting powered by a 1.3L petrol mill offering 109 hp mated to 5-speed manual transmission, and a 1.8L flex-fuel engine delivering 139 hp coupled with a 6 speed automatic transmission.

In the Brazilian market, the new Fiat Cronos will be competing with the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus (next-gen Vento) and Honda City among the other midsized sedans. When the car market of India is concerned, Fiat has not indicated anything about bringing in the Cronos to our market. In fact Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India has not even offered a hint of even bringing the Argo hatchback. Nevertheless, we can sure hope that FCA India will launch these two new cars in near future, as the Linea and the Punto EVO both desperately need to be replaced if the company needs sustainable growth.
